#junkfluenced: the marketing of unhealthy food and beverages by social media influencers popular with Canadian children on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok
CONCLUSIONS: Social media influencers play a substantial role in promoting unhealthy food products to children, primarily fast food items. Given the significant impact of such marketing on children, there is a need for ongoing government-led monitoring, and it is crucial to include social media and influencer marketing in marketing restrictions targeting children in Canada to safeguard this vulnerable demographic.PMID:38605322 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-024-01589-4 (Source: Health Physics)

Jump height ingenerated by countermovement and arm swing better correlates with proagility shuttle run tests but not with change of direction deficits in collegiate female athletes
CONCLUSIONS: Stronger correlations of RSImod, CMJ, and CMJarm with 10-/20-m COD than with linear sprinting, RSI, and SJ suggest that training focused on improving countermovement and arm swings with jumping may enhance COD performance in female athletes.PMID:38602034 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.24.15691-5 (Source: Health Physics)

Soccer and volleyball players do not land differently: implications for anterior cruciate ligament injury risk
CONCLUSIONS: Soccer and volleyball players' landing strategies were thus similar in each task, in opposition to initial hypotheses. We might speculate that the higher anterior cruciate ligament injury rate in soccer may be more related to non-predictable factors than the isolated landing kinematics.PMID:38602036 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.24.15769-6 (Source: Health Physics)

How low back pain is managed-a mixed methods study in 32 countries. Part 2 of Low Back Pain in Low- and Middle-Income Countries Series
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2024 Apr 11:1-42. doi: 10.2519/jospt.2024.12406. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The Lancet Series of Low Back Pain (LBP) highlighted the lack of LBP data from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The study aimed to describe (1) what LBP care is currently delivered in LMICs, and (2) how that care is delivered. METHODS: An online mixed-methods study. A Consortium for LBP in LMICs (n=65) was developed with an expert panel of leading LBP researchers (>2 publications on LBP) and multidisciplinary clinicians and patient partners with five years of clinical/lived LBP experience in LMI...

Technical note: Visual, rapid, scintillation point dosimetry for in vivo MV photon beam radiotherapy treatments
CONCLUSIONS: Plastic scintillator discs have characteristics that are well-suited for in vivo optical dosimetry for x-ray radiotherapy treatments. Unlike typical point dosimeters, there is no inherent readout time delay, and an optical recording of the measurement is saved after treatment for future reference. While several factors influence the integral output for the same dose, they have been quantified here and may be corrected in post-processing.PMID:38598093 | DOI:10.1002/mp.17071 (Source: Health Physics)

Knowledge-based planning for Gamma Knife
CONCLUSIONS: Plans resulting from an IO KBP pipeline are, on average, of equal or superior quality compared to those obtained through manual planning. The results demonstrate the potential for the use of KBP to generate GK treatment with minimal human intervention.PMID:38598107 | DOI:10.1002/mp.17058 (Source: Health Physics)

Computational insights into the binding modes, keto-enol tautomerization and stereo-electronically controlled decarboxylation of oxaloacetate in the active site of macrophomate synthase
Phys Chem Chem Phys. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1039/d4cp00716f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOxaloacetic acid (OAA) is a β-ketocarboxylic acid, which plays an important role as an intermediate in some metabolic pathways, including the tricarboxylic acid cycle, gluconeogenesis and fatty acid biosynthesis. Animal studies have indicated that supplementing oxaloacetic acid shows an increase of lifespan and other substantial health benefits including mitochondrial DNA protection, and protection of retinal, neural and pancreatic tissues. Most of the chemical transformations of OAA in the metabolic pathways have been extensively stu...

Investigating the Detection of Breast Cancer with Deep Transfer Learning Using Resnet18 and Resnet34
Biomed Phys Eng Express. 2024 Apr 10. doi: 10.1088/2057-1976/ad3cdf. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA lot of underdeveloped nations, particularly in Africa, struggle with cancer-related, deadly diseases. Particularly in women, the incidence of breast cancer is rising daily because of ignorance and delayed diagnosis. Only by correctly identifying and diagnosing cancer in its very early stages of development can be effectively treated. The classification of cancer can be accelerated and automated with the aid of computer-aided diagnosis and medical image analysis techniques. This research provides the use of transfer learning...

Resistance training's impact on blood biomarkers and cognitive function in older adults with low and high risk of mild cognitive impairment: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: Our study results suggest a different effect of RT on inhibitory control between older adults with low compared to high MCI risk. IGF-1 may play a role in the mechanism behind the cognitive benefit of RT and KYN may be a surrogate biomarker for neurodegeneration and cognitive decline.PMID:38600451 | PMC:PMC11005144 | DOI:10.1186/s11556-024-00344-9 (Source: Health Physics)

Validation of the Cervical Torsion Test and Head Neck Differentiation Test in Patients with Peripheral Vestibular Hypofunction
CONCLUSIONS: The CTT and HNDT can serve as nonlaboratory tests in patients with dizziness. The HNDT en bloc has the best discriminatory validity, finding those with and those without VH. Symptom reproduction during torsion may help to identify when neck problems may contribute to dizziness.IMPACT: The HNDT en bloc may be useful for ruling VH in or out in patients with dizziness. Positive CTT and HNDT in torsion components may verify the likelihood of additional neck involvement.PMID:38590288 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzae057 (Source: Health Physics)
