Introducing the i-Rainbow ©: An Evidence-Based, Parent-Friendly Care Pathway Designed for Critically Ill Infants in the NICU Setting
CONCLUSION: The i-Rainbow is a unique, parent-friendly, infant-based tool that guides sensory interventions in the NICU by staging infants based on cardiorespiratory status and physiologic maturity, not age. The i-Rainbow improved the delivery of developmental care activities in our unit and was well received by parents and nurses.VIDEO ABSTRACT: Supplemental Digital Content available at: http://links.lww.com/PPT/A516.PMID:38568275 | DOI:10.1097/PEP.0000000000001094 (Source: Health Physics)

Trauma-Informed Care in Pediatric Physical Therapy as a Standard Precaution: The Time Is Here
Pediatr Phys Ther. 2024 Apr 1;36(2):278-284. doi: 10.1097/PEP.0000000000001095. Epub 2024 Mar 29.ABSTRACTIn this special communication, an overview of the research on trauma, resilience, and action items for the pediatric physical therapist (PT) is addressed. The experiences of early childhood, positive and negative, impact overall development and well-being throughout the lifespan. Childhood trauma can include exposure to abuse, neglect, violence, racism, or medical procedures. These adverse childhood experiences are associated with poor physical and mental health outcomes that can extend into adulthood and can appear in ...

Two-dimensional time-resolved scintillating sheet monitoring of proton pencil beam scanning FLASH mouse irradiations
CONCLUSIONS: The scintillation imaging system allowed for monitoring of UHDR proton PBS delivery in vivo with 0.1 mm pixel size and 2 ms temporal resolution. The feasibility of instantaneous dose rate measurements was demonstrated, and the system was used for validation of the mouse leg position within the field.PMID:38569159 | DOI:10.1002/mp.17049 (Source: Health Physics)

Monte carlo simulation study on the dose and dose-averaged linear energy transfer distributions in carbon ion radiotherapy
In this study, we calculated the physical doses and their linear energy transfer (LET) distributions for patterns of typical CIRT beams using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. The LETd was then deduced from the MC simulation and compared with that obtained from the conventional method. The two types of LETd agreed well with each other, except around the distal end of the spread-out Bragg peak. Furthermore, an MC simulation was conducted with the material composition of water and realistic materials. The profiles of physical dose and LETd were in good agreement for both techniques. These results indicate that the previous studie...

Proposals for talonavicular joint assessment using ultrasound imaging and its reliability and validity
Conclusion] We showed that ultrasonographic talonavicular angle assessment has good reliability and moderate validity for detecting significant alignment changes in the talonavicular joints due to loading. In the future, this evaluation method should be performed before and after exercise therapy to assess and develop appropriate exercise therapy for flatfoot.PMID:38562531 | PMC:PMC10981953 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.36.208 (Source: Health Physics)

Functional electrostimulation therapy for vastus medialis decreases the varus thrust during gait
Conclusion] Wearing the functional electrical stimulation set caused the vastus medialis to act earlier in response to heel strike, thereby improving the knee-joint extension angle and suppressing varus thrust.PMID:38562536 | PMC:PMC10981958 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.36.190 (Source: Health Physics)

Sound source localization in blind soccer: differences between sighted and visually impaired players
Conclusion] The visually impaired participants made less time errors in response to the localization of the ball than the sighted participants, even when the ball speed increased. The results indicate that visually impaired people have better sound source localization ability than sighted people do.PMID:38562539 | PMC:PMC10981959 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.36.161 (Source: Health Physics)

Prevalence of depression among subjects practicing aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: The results show that all exercise may lead to individuals becoming less prone to depression; there is no advantage to undertaking aerobic exercise over anaerobic exercise. As long as there is good adherence and the appropriate number of sessions and amount of time, individuals should be encouraged to choose their type of exercise according to their needs and preferences.PMID:38563578 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.24.15480-1 (Source: Health Physics)

Attitudes and Beliefs of Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Students Towards Working with Older Adults: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: A discrepancy is observed in physical therapists in that although attitudes towards older adults are positive, a lack of knowledge on aging and a disinterest in working with older adults exists. Intervention studies suggest that clinical experience may improve attitudes towards older adults in physical therapist students.IMPACT: Predominantly positive attitudes towards older adults are reported by physical therapist students, while for clinicians mixed results are observed. Education coupled with clinical experiences appear to be effective interventions to improve attitudes towards older adults, but such resea...

CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this meta-analysis suggested that the physical agent modalities and complementary medicine techniques in people with vulvodynia appear to be more effective than placebo, sham, or waiting list. Further evidence on physical agent modalities and complementary therapies are warranted in the future.IMPACT: This was the first systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to provide evidence on the efficacy of rehabilitation interventions in patients with vulvodynia.PMID:38564267 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzae054 (Source: Health Physics)
