Seltene Nervenkompressionssyndrome
Handchir Mikrochir Plast Chir. 2024 Feb;56(1):21-31. doi: 10.1055/a-2250-8389. Epub 2024 Mar 20.ABSTRACTIn regard to the complex anatomical relationship of peripheral nerves and muscles, tendons, fasciae as well as their long course within those anatomical structures and additional close contact to bony structures, they are prone to suffer from local compression syndromes. Hence creating a vast majority of entrapment syndromes - well described in literature for almost every single nerve. The purpose of this article is to give an overview of symptoms, signs, diagnostic studies and treatment options, addressing especially th...

Nerventransfers bei Kindern mit nicht traumatischer AmyoplasieNerve Transfers in Children with Non-traumatic Amyoplasia
CONCLUSION: This work shows that the treatment of non-traumatic amyoplasia in children with selective nerve grafts is a successful method. Nerve transfers allow patients to gain or regain important functions for managing independent everyday life. The surgical methods have been established in the treatment of traumatic nerve injuries. They are well-known and can be carried out safely. We believe that this is an important treatment option for paediatric patients with paralysis associated with TM or AMC, which should also be known to the treating physicians.PMID:38508206 | DOI:10.1055/a-2240-4781 (Source: Handchirurgie Mikro...

Functional Outcome of Peripheral Nerve Injury after Pediatric Supracondylar Humerus Fracture: Comparison of Surgical and Conservative Treatment
Handchir Mikrochir Plast Chir. 2024 Feb;56(1):93-98. doi: 10.1055/a-2254-2465. Epub 2024 Mar 20.ABSTRACTSupracondylar humerus fractures are the most common elbow fractures in children up to 10 years of age. The incidence of associated nerve injuries varies up to 15% depending on the data. Traumatic and iatrogenic lesions mainly affect the ulnar nerve. The regeneration of peripheral nerves is comparatively better in childhood. In the present study, the functional results after surgical and conservative treatment of nerve injuries in children after supracondylar fractures were compared and analyzed for influencing factors. I...

Rhizarthrosis: Resection Arthroplasty versus Resection Suspension Arthroplasty - Still the Gold Standard?
This study examined whether the traditional surgical methods continue to have their "right to exist" or whether they will be replaced by prostheses. In a retrospective study with prospective data collection, 48 hands of 45 patients diagnosed with rhizarthrosis in stages II and III according to Eaton and Littler were clinically examined 2.5 years after resection arthroplasty/resection-suspension-interposition arthroplasty using flexor carpi radialis (FCR) or abductor pollicis longus (APL) tendon strips in the years 2015-2018. The postoperative outcome was assessed using mobility, grip strength, two-point discrimination, pos...

"Nerve Surgery" In German-Speaking Countries - Starting With The Nerve Club Up To A Certificate
This article reviews the club´s history and specific characteristics and activities, and highlights the concept of a certificate in nerve surgery. We have annual club meetings and organize every two years a plexus symposium. Also exists a scientific publication award and cooperation with an online based journal dedicated to medical publications in the field of nerve surgery.PMID:38508202 | DOI:10.1055/a-2241-2809 (Source: Handchirurgie Mikrochirurgie Plastische Chirurgie)

Interdisciplinary Treatment Of Tumorous And Tumour-Like Lesions Of Peripheral Nerves
Handchir Mikrochir Plast Chir. 2024 Feb;56(1):11-20. doi: 10.1055/a-2250-7772. Epub 2024 Mar 20.ABSTRACTTumorous or tumour-like lesions of peripheral nerves are generally rare, heterogeneous and challenging to diagnose and treat. They may become apparent by a palpable swelling (lump) near nerves, sensory and/or motor deficits, pain to touch or neuropathic pain. In 91% of cases, tumours are benign. The differentiation of entities and their characteristics as well as a function-preserving resection strategy are highly relevant. Misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment can lead to severe deficits and pain syndromes. Benign tumou...
