Severe hypertriglyceridemia during treatment with intraperitoneal cisplatin and paclitaxel for advanced stage fallopian tube carcinoma
Publication date: Available online 20 February 2020Source: Gynecologic Oncology ReportsAuthor(s): Megan Lander, Yasmin Abedin, Sofia Gabrilovich, Jenna Z. MarcusAbstractThis case report describes a patient who developed severe hypertriglyceridemia (1871 mg/dL) and hyperlipidemia (LDL 132 mg/dL) during intraperitoneal (IP) administration of cisplatin and paclitaxel as adjuvant treatment for stage IIIC fallopian tube carcinoma. After an evaluation with her primary care physician, she was treated with gemfibrozil and rosuvastatin for the duration of her treatment. There was complete resolution of hypertriglyceridemia after co...

Rapid regression of microsatellite instability-high/programmed cell death ligand 1-negative recurrent endometrial carcinoma by immune checkpoint blockade with pembrolizumab: a case report and literature review
Publication date: Available online 20 February 2020Source: Gynecologic Oncology ReportsAuthor(s): Akihiro Takeda, Wataru Koike, Kazuko WatanabeAbstractIn a 53-year-old woman who had a surgical diagnosis of grade 3 endometrioid carcinoma (pT1aN0M0, FIGO 1A), adjuvant chemotherapy with paclitaxel and carboplatin was initiated. However, after the completion of fourth cycle, the patient refused to continue the treatment. At 12 months after surgery, local recurrence was noted near the left posterior portion of the vaginal stump. External radiotherapy to the pelvic cavity achieved marked reduction of the tumor. At 12 months afte...

Primary peritoneal clear cell carcinoma. A case report and literature review
We report a case of a 48-year-old Caucasian woman who was treated at the University General Hospital of Alicante. She consulted because of progressive abdominal pain over the last seven months, with the initial diagnosis of renal-ureteral colic. Ultrasound and computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis revealed a 25x15 cm, well-defined cystic lesion with papillary projections, centrally located in the abdomen. The radiology report suggested a primary ovarian tumor versus peritoneal implant as the first option. The patient underwent an exploratory laparotomy showing a large cystic mass located in the urinary bladder peri...

Controlled Decompression of Large Ovarian Cystic Tumors via Mini-Laparotomy Using Dermabond Advanced™
Publication date: Available online 17 February 2020Source: Gynecologic Oncology ReportsAuthor(s): Katherine Hicks-Courant, Christopher S. Awtrey, Young Bae KimAbstractLarge cystic ovarian tumors usually require surgical removal because of symptoms and the possibility of malignancy. The ideal surgical approach would minimize the risk of spillage of tumor contents while minimizing surgical morbidity. The present study aimed to demonstrate a novel technique to drain large cystic ovarian tumors without spillage. A mini-laparotomy is performed and the tumor surface is exposed. Dermabond Advanced™ is applied to the tumor and a...

Placental Site Trophoblastic Tumor: Successful Treatment of 13 Cases
Publication date: Available online 13 February 2020Source: Gynecologic Oncology ReportsAuthor(s): Amy L. Alexander, Anna E. Strohl, Kruti P. Maniar, John R. LurainAbstractPlacental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT) is a rare variant of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) that is characterized by slow growth resulting in mostly uterine-confined disease, low human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels, and resistance to chemotherapy. Our objective was to update our center’s experience with PSTT with respect to presentation, prognostic factors, treatment, and outcomes from 2003 to 2019.Thirteen women with PSTT were identif...

Primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the uterus: Excellent clinical response following a multimodal treatment approach
We present a case report of a patient with uterine primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET). The patient underwent surgical management followed by pelvic radiation and intravaginal brachytherapy. Following a stable interval, the patient was found to have new onset spinal, pulmonary, and adrenal metastatic disease. She was subsequently started on high dose carboplatin and etoposide. An interval reduction of her metastatic disease was observed after three cycles. We conclude that a multimodal approach, including platinum-based adjuvant chemotherapy with etoposide, can be effective in patients who present with residual or recur...
