Implementing a Universal Cervical Length Screening Program in a Large Hospital System, it Takes Some Time to Achieve Consistent Results
This study was performed after universal TV-CL screening was implemented at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas, for all women undergoing an anatomy ultrasound (US) between 18 0/6 and 23 6/7 weeks of gestation. Pregnant women carrying singletons without prior history of preterm delivery who underwent anatomy ultrasound evaluation between September 2017 and March 2020 (30 months) were included. The complete study period was divided in five epochs of six months each. Changes in patient ’s acceptance for the TV scan, in CL distribution, in the prevalence of short cervix defined as ≤15, ≤20, o...

Use of Prophylactic Antibiotics to Prevent Urinary Tract Infection After Urodynamic Testing and Cystoscopy in Women: A Practice Pattern Study
Conclusion: There was no uniform approach to urinary tract infection prophylaxis for UDS and outpatient cystoscopy in women which reflects the lack of current guidelines and the low level of evidence on which they are based. This non-uniform practice calls for more research to better define an evidence-based standard of care. (Source: Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation)

Fenofibrate Exerts Anticancer Effects on Human Cervical Cancer HeLa Cells via Caspase-Dependent Apoptosis and Cell Cycle Arrest
Conclusion: In conclusion, these data demonstrated that fenofibrate initially induced cell cycle arrest, followed by caspase-3-dependent cell death in cervical cancer HeLa cells. However, fenofibrate also induced autophagy activation, which is closely related to the survival of diverse cancer cells, thus reducing the anticancer effects of fenofibrate. Therefore, the combination of an autophagy inhibitor and fenofibrate might have the potential to become a new therapeutic strategy for cervical cancer.Gynecol Obstet Invest (Source: Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation)

Association between polycystic ovarian syndrome and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus: A meta-analysis
Objectives: The results of studies regarding the association between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are controversial. Design: This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the relationship between PCOS and GDM. Methods: English language articles published before July 2021 were included by searching in databases: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Medline and Google Scholar. All these results were computed using STATA 12.0 software. The random-effects models were used to calculate summary odds ratio (OR) or relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) when the heterogeneity wa...

Prevalence of intrauterine adhesions after myomectomy: a prospective multicenter observational study
Objectives: To evaluate intrauterine adhesion formation after laparoscopic and laparotomic myomectomy. Design: Prospective, multicenter, observational study (ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT04030273). Methods: We included patients after laparotomic and laparoscopic myomectomy. All patients underwent post-surgical diagnostic hysteroscopy, after three months. The intrauterine adhesion rate and associated factors were investigated. Results: Between January 2020 and December 2020, 38 and 24 consecutive patients underwent laparoscopic and laparotomic myomectomy, respectively. All diagnostic hysteroscopies were performed in the off...

The risk of endometrial malignancy and other endometrial pathology in women with abnormal uterine bleeding: an ultrasound-based model development study by the IETA group
Conclusions The proposed model reliably distinguishes between four histological outcomes. This is the first model to discriminate between several outcomes, and is the only model applicable when menopausal status is uncertain. The model could be useful for patient management and counseling, and aid in the interpretation of ultrasound findings. Future r esearch is needed to externally validate the model. Preoperative Uterine Artery Embolization in Women Undergoing Uterus-Preserving Myomectomy for Extensive Fibroid Disease: A Retrospective Analysis
Conclusion: PUAE is beneficial for uterus-preserving removal of myomas from patients with a substantially enlarged uterus. There is a significant reduction of high blood loss ( ≥500 mL), need for postoperative blood transfusion, and postoperative complications in patients with extensive fibroid disease after PUAE compared to no intervention before myoma enucleation.Gynecol Obstet Invest (Source: Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation)

Acute Adnexal Torsion: Is Immediate Surgical Intervention Associated with a Better Outcome?

Retroperitoneal squamous cell carcinoma involving the pelvic side wall arising from endometriosis: a case report
Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, the present case represents the first evidence of retroperitoneal SCC of the pelvic side wall arising from endometriosis completely resected by laparoscopic approach. Although its rare occurrence, the gynecologist oncologist should maintain a high index of suspicion for malignant endometriosis transformation in case of retroperitoneal pelvic mass and history of endometriosis.
