A case of redo tricuspid valve repair after neonatal cone operation for Ebstein ’s anomaly
AbstractCone reconstruction for Ebstein ’s anomaly, although effective, is challenging in neonatal cases. Very few reports have discussed recurrent regurgitation. Herein, we report a successful redo tricuspid valve repair for recurrent regurgitation 5 years after cone reconstruction. A 5-year-old boy underwent cone reconstruction for E bstein’s anomaly in the neonatal period. Although tricuspid regurgitation reduced initially, it subsequently worsened. The mechanisms of regurgitation are dilatation of the anteroseptal commissure, indentation in the septal leaflet, and foreshortening of the anterior leaflet. Augmentati...

Does synchronous early head and neck cancer with esophageal cancer need treatment after preoperative chemotherapy?
ConclusionOur results indicate that early HNC with comorbid ESCC could be followed up without additional treatment if preoperative chemotherapy is successful. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Native aortic valve thrombosis due to heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
AbstractA 65-year-old man with unstable angina was transferred to our department for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Preoperative computed tomography indicated a large thrombosis in the left coronary cusp (LCC). CABG concomitant thrombectomy was performed under cardiopulmonary bypass using unfractionated heparin. Although the LCC was filled with a large thrombus, the left coronary artery ostium was not obstructed. The platelet count decreased by 68%, 12  days after starting heparin in the previous hospital. There is a high probability that this patient had HIT which was not recognized before surgery. (Source: Gene...

Aggressive early surgical strategy in patients with intracranial hemorrhage: a new cardiopulmonary bypass option
ConclusionsIn early cardiac surgery with ICC, especially with hemorrhage, NM-CPB reduced postoperative neurological complications. We plan to use NM-CPB to expand the indications and to establish an early aggressive treatment. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Application of “suction-guided stapling” during uniportal thoracoscopic major lung resection
AbstractUniportal thoracoscopic major pulmonary resection is used worldwide as a minimally invasive surgery. Occasionally, it is difficult to insert a stapler smoothly during uniportal thoracoscopic major pulmonary resection because of limited angulation. To address this challenge, we used “suction-guided stapling” to divide the bronchus or pulmonary vein. Here, we provide details of this technique, including division of the pulmonary veins or bronchus in a video. In addition, we validate this technique by showing perioperative results of uniportal thoracoscopic major pulmonary re sections in our department. (Source: G...
