No-drain management after thoracoscopic lung wedge resection with a novel intraoperative sealing test
ConclusionsNo-drain management after thoracoscopic wedge resection was associated with fewer post-operative complications and shorter hospital stay in selected patients. Our novel intraoperative sealing test may be useful for no-drain management of select patients. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Circular RNA circ_0001445 alleviates the ox-LDL-induced endothelial injury in human primary aortic endothelial cells through regulating ABCG1 via acting as a sponge of miR-208b-5p
ConclusionCirc_0001445 could abate ox-LDL-mediated HAEC damage by the miR-208b-5p/ABCG1 axis, providing a novel insight into the pathogenesis and treatment of CAD. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

A simple closure method for a mechanical aortic valve in left ventricular assist device implantation
AbstractBecause a mechanical aortic valve is a contraindication for the implantation of left ventricular assist device, complicated additional procedures such as a replacement with a bioprosthesis and a closure of the left ventricular outflow tract are required to implant the device. Among such procedures, a sandwich plug technique using vascular clips is one of the simple and feasible procedures. However, this technique requires an off-label use of vascular clips within the aorta that could be associated with a risk of dislodgement and embolization. Thus, we developed a modified sandwich technique without using vascular c...

Therapeutic effectiveness of tuberculous aneurysm and risk factors for mortality: a systematic review
ConclusionOpen surgery was accompanied by higher perioperative mortality, whereas EVAR was followed with higher TBAA-related mortality. Emergent surgical choices of open surgery may be associated with high perioperative mortality. Typical TB symptoms before EVAR are a significant risk factor for mortality after EVAR. Early anti-TB treatment should be administered if EVAR is the surgical option. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Outcomes of loop technique with ring annuloplasty: a   & gt;  10-year experience
ConclusionsThe loop technique with ring annuloplasty provided excellent results with good hemodynamics beyond the mid-term. Residual regurgitation  ≥ mild and the loop-in-loop technique may not be preferable for durable outcomes. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Perigraft seroma after total aortic arch replacement using Triplex graft
AbstractA 42-year-old gentleman underwent total aortic arch replacement with Triplex graft (Terumo corporation, Tokyo, Japan) for acute type A dissection. Sixteen months later, a computed tomography revealed a rapidly enlarging low-density area around the graft, with no contrast enhancement. The area was compressing the mediastinal structures, such as the superior vena cava and right pulmonary artery. Suspecting lymphorrhea or perigraft seroma (PGS), surgical drainage was performed. Although fluid accumulation around the graft was cloudy and yellowish, Gram stain was negative. A fatty preparation was administered from the ...

Chunnel debranching for hybrid repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm
AbstractHybrid repair of a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm comprising thoracic endovascular aortic repair and total renovisceral debranching is a feasible alternative to open repair, especially for high-risk patients. However, transperitoneal debranching is a relatively complicated procedure that requires deep dissection around vital abdominal organs. Therefore, we developed a new debranching technique called Chunnel debranching, which was characterized by transaortic tunneling using a covered stent between the target artery and the prosthetic graft anastomosed on the aneurysmal wall using an inclusion technique. This pro...
