A Meta-Analysis of Sleep Disorders and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Potential Causality and Symptom Management
In conclusion, there is a significant association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and sleep disorders in the included studies. In addition, patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease may have more severe daytime sleepiness and shorter sleep duration. More attention should be paid to the sleep situation of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease patients to potentially slow the disease progression. (Source: Gastroenterology Nursing)

Patient Education Regarding Fasting Recommendations to Shorten Fasting Times in Patients Undergoing Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: A Controlled Pilot Study
This study evaluated the applicability and efficacy of patient education regarding fasting recommendations to shorten fasting times in patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). A prospective nonrandomized controlled pilot study was performed. The intervention group (IG) was educated by nurses to eat until 6 hours and drink until 2 hours before EGD. The control group (CG) received usual care. Outcomes were applicability as perceived by patients, adherence to fasting recommendations, gastric visibility, and patients' comfort. The Effectiveness of a Low-Cost Personalized Educational Program on the Quality of Bowel Cleansing Among Patients Undergoing a Colonoscopy
In relation to endoscopic practices, particularly a colonoscopy, patient education is required to maximize the quality of bowel preparation. Thus, the intention of this study is to examine how personalized patient education prior to a colonoscopy influences the quality of bowel preparation. A quasi-experimental post-test design was employed at the Kurdistan Center for Gastroenterology Hepatology and the Ebin Sina Center in Iraq from December 21, 2019, to September 30, 2020. Of 270 participants, 219 were selected for data analysis. The mean age (SD) of the participants was 41.18 (15.22), with a median of 41 years and a slig...

Improving Clinical Documentation Compliance Pre-Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Procedures Through the Use of an Endoscopy Checklist
Production pressure in endoscopy units, to avoid procedural delays, can lead to documentation gaps that pose a patient safety risk. Fast-paced, high-volume endoscopy units within a 673-bed academic medical center, incomplete and illegible documentation were identified during a 2018 Joint Commission survey. Pre-procedure safety checklists help ensure accurate clinical handovers. Checklists promote team communication that includes the patient to have complete and relevant information to perform a safe procedure and speak up to identify discrepancies. An endoscopy-specific safety checklist was used by the procedural team imme...
