Association between metabolic syndrome and gastric cancer risk: results from the Health Examinees Study
ConclusionsIn this prospective cohort study, we found that MetS were associated with an increased risk of GC in the Korean population. Our findings suggest that MetS may be a potentially modifiable risk factor for GC risk. (Source: Gastric Cancer)

Incidence and risk factors for venous thromboembolism in the Cancer-VTE Registry stomach cancer subcohort
ConclusionsVTE prevalence at the time of cancer diagnosis was not negligible and was extremely high when the patients had high D-dimer. VTE screening by D-dimer before starting cancer treatment is advisable, even for asymptomatic patients, regardless of whether the patient is undergoing surgery or chemotherapy.Trial registrationUMIN000024942. The putative pleiotropic functions of meprin β in gastric cancer
ConclusionsMeprin β is differentially expressed in GC and has potential tumor biological relevance. It might function as a tumor suppressor or promotor depending on histoanatomical site and context. (Source: Gastric Cancer)

FAK/IL-8 axis promotes the proliferation and migration of gastric cancer cells
In this study, we found FAK to be essential for the proliferation, migration, and peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer cells. To examine the molecular regulatory mechanisms of FAK in the peritoneal dissemination of gastric cancer, we performed RNA-seq analysis of MKN-45-FAK−/− and MKN45 cells and demonstrated that IL-8 was downregulated in FAK-deficient cells. Conversely, we confirmed that IL-8 activates FAK activity. We established that IL-8 promotes the proliferation, colony formation, and  migration of gastric cancer cells that are partially mediated by FAK. Thus, we propose that an IL-8-FAK-IL-8 positive feedba...

Quality-adjusted time without symptoms or toxicity analysis of nivolumab plus chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone for the management of previously untreated patients with advanced gastric cancer, gastroesophageal junction cancer, or esophageal adenocarcinoma
ConclusionsNIVO  + chemo was associated with a statistically significant and clinically important gain in quality-adjusted survival compared with chemo alone among previously untreated patients with advanced GC/GEJC/EAC. (Source: Gastric Cancer)

Proteomic profiling of gastric cancer with peritoneal metastasis identifies a protein signature associated with immune microenvironment and patient outcome
ConclusionsWe characterized proteomic features that were informative for PM progression of GC. A protein signature associated with immune microenvironment and patient outcome was derived, and it could guide risk stratification and individualized treatment. (Source: Gastric Cancer)
