Beta-mannans are insoluble plant polysaccharides with beta-1,4-linked mannose as the backbone. We used three forms of this polysaccharide, namely, pure mannan, glucomannan, and galactomannan, to enrich haloarchaea, which have the ability to utilize mannans for growth. Four mannan-utilizing strains obtained in pure cultures were closely related to each other on the level of the same species. Protective potential of outer membrane vesicles derived from a virulent strain of Francisella tularensis
Francisella tularensis secretes tubular outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) that contain a number of immunoreactive proteins as well as virulence factors. We have reported previously that isolated Francisella OMVs enter macrophages, cumulate inside, and induce a strong pro-inflammatory response. Biological characteristics of the bacteriophage LDT325 and its potential application against the plant pathogen Pseudomonas syringae
In this study, a P. syringae phage was isolated from soil samples. Based on morphological characteristics, bacteriophage vB_PsS_LDT325 belongs to the Siphoviridae family; it has an icosahedral head with a diameter of 53 ± 1 nm and nonretractable tails measuring 110 ± 1 nm. Microbial diversity in camel milk from Xinjiang, China as revealed by metataxonomic analysis
In this study, we obtained 20 samples of camel milk during spring and summer in Urumqi and Hami, Xinjiang, China. Single-molecule real-time sequencing technology was used to analyze the bacterial community composition. The results revealed that there were significant seasonal differences in the bacterial composition and diversity of camel milk. Epidemiological investigation and pathogenicity analysis of waterfowl astroviruses in some areas of China
In this study, we collected 1546 waterfowl samples from 13 provinces in China for epidemiological investigation. The results showed that 260 samples (16.8%) were positive. Four species of astrovirus were detected in 13 provinces except Fujian province. Among the four sites tested, the highest positive rates were found in farms and slaughterhouses.
