Thyroid function and polycystic ovary syndrome: a Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionsOur findings demonstrate a cause-and-effect connection between PCOS and hyperthyroidism. The study established foundation for further investigation for interaction between thyroid function and PCOS. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Exploring the association between regional fat distribution and atrial fibrillation risks: a comprehensive cohort study
ConclusionsFat mass, mainly leg fat mass, was associated with a lower risk of AF. ASAT did not exert protective effects. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Causal association between thyroid dysfunction and sepsis: a two-sample mendelian randomization study
ConclusionsThis study identified a causal link between hypothyroidism and the occurrence of asthma-associated pneumonia or sepsis, and other sepsis, but not with the development of streptococcal sepsis and puerperal sepsis. Moreover, our findings did not reveal any causal association between hyperthyroidism and streptococcal sepsis, puerperal sepsis, asthma-associated pneumonia or sepsis, and other sepsis. Comparing the efficacy of glucocorticoids and anti-VEGF in treating diabetic macular edema: systematic review and comprehensive analysis
This study included randomized controlled trials up to February 2023 comparing the efficacy of corticosteroid-related therapy and anti-VEGF therapy. PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase were searched, and the quality of the studies was carefully assessed. Finally, 39 studies were included.ResultsResults at 3-month followup showed that intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (IVB) + triamcinolone acetonide (TA) was the most beneficial in improving best-corrected visual acuity and reducing the thickness of macular edema in the center of the retina in patients with DME. Results at 6-month follow-up showed that intravitreal ...

Comparison of saline infusion test and captopril challenge test in the diagnosis of Chinese with primary aldosteronism in different age groups
ConclusionCompared with SIT, CCT had a higher diagnostic value when post-CCT PAC was used as the diagnostic criterion in Chinese people, while the selection of diagnostic thresholds depended on patient age. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Interaction between anemia and hyperuricemia in the risk of all-cause mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease
ConclusionA potential synergetic effect between anemia and hyperuricemia on all-cause mortality was found in patients with CKD. However, further studies are needed to clarify the causal relationship between them. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Association of serum uric acid with right cardiac chamber remodeling assessed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance feature tracking in patients with connective tissue disease
ConclusionSUA may be a potential risk factor of right cardiac chamber remodeling and is independently associated with impaired RA conduit strain and RV GCS in CTD patients. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Deciphering thyroid function and CIMT: a Mendelian randomization study of the U-shaped influence mediated by apolipoproteins
ConclusionThis research establishes a causal link between thyroid function and CIMT using MR methods, underscoring the importance of monitoring thyroid function for early cardiovascular risk assessment. The results advocate for the consideration of thyroid hormone supplementation in hypothyroid patients as a strategy to mitigate the risk of carotid atherosclerosis. These insights pave the way for more targeted approaches in managing patients with thyroid dysfunction to prevent cardiovascular complications. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Meal timing and its role in obesity and associated diseases
Meal timing emerges as a crucial factor influencing metabolic health that can be explained by the tight interaction between the endogenous circadian clock and metabolic homeostasis. Mistimed food intake, such as delayed or nighttime consumption, leads to desynchronization of the internal circadian clock and is associated with an increased risk for obesity and associated metabolic disturbances such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Conversely, meal timing aligned with cellular rhythms can optimize the performance of tissues and organs. In this review, we provide an overview of the metabolic effects of meal tim...

Associations of comorbid depression with cardiovascular-renal events and all-cause mortality accounting for patient reported outcomes in individuals with type 2 diabetes: a 6-year prospective analysis of the Hong Kong Diabetes Register
ConclusionDepression exhibits significant association with CVD, IHD, and all-cause mortality in patients with diabetes, adjusting for their HRQoL and health behaviors. Despite the association between depression and all-cause mortality attenuated after adjusting for HRQoL, the effect size remains substantial. The feeling of tiredness or having little energy, as assessed by item Q4 of the PHQ-9 questionnaire, was found to be significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality after covariate adjustments. Our findings emphasize the importance of incorporating psychiatric evaluations into holistic diabetes m...

Genetic profile of a large Spanish cohort with hypercalcemia
ConclusionsOur study demonstrates the importance of genetic analysis through massive sequencing to obtain a clinical diagnosis of certainty. The identification of patients with a genetic cause is important for the appropriate treatment and identification of family members at risk of the disease. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

Indole-3-carboxyaldehyde does not reverse the intestinal effects of fiber-free diet in mice
ConclusionsFiber-free diet lowered colonic content of I3A in mice. I3A stimulates GLP-1 secretion in vitro, but not in animal studies. Moreover, it has no evident beneficial effect on intestinal health when administered in vivo. (Source: Frontiers in Endocrinology)

External validation of a minimal-resource model to predict reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate in people with type 2 diabetes without diagnosis of chronic kidney disease in Mexico: a comparison between country-level and regional performance
ConclusionThe minimal-resource model performs consistently in a representative Mexican population sample compared with the Americas regional performance. In primary care settings where screening is underperformed and access to laboratory testing is limited, the model can act as a risk-tailored CKD screening solution, directing screening resources to patients who are at highest risk.
