Structural interaction between bone and implants due to arthroplasty of the first metatarsophalangeal joint
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the disease characterized by a gradual and progressive destruction of cartilage that covers the surface of joints. It is the most common joint disease worldwide, affecting an estimated 10% of men and 18% of women over 60 years of age [1,2]. Osteoarthritis in the first metatarsophalangeal joint, known as hallux rigidus, is the most frequent arthrosis of the foot and ankle, and the second most important condition involving the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe in the population, only after hallux valgus [3]. Subtalar joint alignment in ankle osteoarthritis
The influence of supramalleolar deformities and ankle joint instability on the development of ankle joint osteoarthritis has extensively been investigated [1 –5]. However, only little information is available regarding inframalleolar risk factors [1,6–9]. Hayashi et al. first introduced the concept of subtalar joint compensation for deformities above the ankle joint in patients suffering from primary varus ankle osteoarthritis [8]. They assessed the subtalar joint alignment on plain weightbearing radiographs. (Source: Foot and Ankle Surgery)

A randomized comparison between lateral ligaments augmentation using suture-tape and modified Brostr öm repair in young female patients with chronic ankle instability
The modified Brostr öm anatomic ligament repair is currently the most common and gold-standard primary surgical technique for chronic lateral ankle instability. There is an increasing interest in minimally invasive procedures to treat this condition [1]. Minimally invasive procedures can be divided into three major ca tegories: arthroscopic approach including the arthroscopic ligament rapair (arthroscopic Broström procedure) [2,3] and arthroscopic ligament reconstruction [4,5], non-arthroscopic reconstructive approach such as the percutaneous or mini-open ligament reconstruction using tendon graft [6,7], non-art hroscopi...

First metatarsophalangeal fusion using joint specific dorsal plate with interfragmentary screw augmentation: Clinical and radiological outcomes
Ankylosis of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint (MTPJ) had been described as early as 1887 by Kelikian [1] and later by Clutton in 1894 [2] who concluded that stiffness of the 1st MTPJ, in an optimal position, would produce a longstanding and satisfactory result for patients with degenerative arthritis and hallux valgus. Is generalized ligamentous laxity a prognostic factor for recurred hallux valgus deformity?
This study was performed to evaluate the intermediate-term clinical outcomes after proximal chevron osteotomy for hallux valgus in patients with generalized ligamentous laxity, and to determine the effect on postoperative recurrence of deformity. (Source: Foot and Ankle Surgery)

Two year outcomes of minimally invasive hallux valgus surgery
Hallux valgus is a common forefoot disorder, first coined by Carl Hueter (1871) as a condition with static subluxation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint with lateral deviation of the great toe and medial deviation of the first metatarsal [1]. It often results in functional disability and foot pain [2]. (Source: Foot and Ankle Surgery)

Response to the Letter to the Editor on “The arthroereisis procedure in adult flexible flatfoot grade IIA due to insufficiency of posterior tibial tendon”
I would like to thank the authors for the interest shown in our article [1]; the spring ligament lesions can be evaluated with the MRI, however, especially in the flexible flatfeet grade IIA, rarely the spring ligament is completely injured (grade III) [2]. (Source: Foot and Ankle Surgery)
