Joint Report on Terminology for Cosmetic Gynecology
Conclusions A consensus-based document establishing clear terminology for cosmetic gynecology procedures has been created. Use of these terms should be encouraged to provide clarity to patients seeking these procedures and to facilitate future research to establish the safety and efficacy of these procedures. Midurethral Sling Removal or Revision in Women with Chronic Pain
The objectives of this study are (1) to estimate the incidence of midurethral sling revision/removal in women with preexisting pain diagnoses versus those without these diagnoses and (2) to describe associations between numbers and type of pain diagnoses with revision/removal. Methods Women who underwent midurethral sling surgery between 2009 through 2014 were identified in the MarketScan database and tracked and December 31, 2014. Patients with preoperative chronic pain diagnoses (fibromyalgia, endometriosis, irritable bowel, dyspareunia, low back pain, temporomandibular joint syndrome, interstitial cystitis, pelvi...

Surgical Complications and Hospital Costs in Robot-Assisted Versus Conventional Laparoscopic Hysterectomy With Concurrent Sacrocolpopexy: Analysis of the Nationwide Readmissions Database
This study aimed to compare differences in perioperative complications, 30-day readmissions, and costs between robot-assisted and conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy with concurrent sacrocolpopexy using a large national database. Methods Using the 2009–2015 Nationwide Readmissions Database and procedure codes, we identified patients who underwent a robot-assisted or conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy with sacrocolpopexy. We measured in-hospital perioperative complications using diagnosis and procedure codes and measured 30-day readmissions based on patient linkages across hospitalizations. Hospital costs we...

The Siege of Ayder Hospital: A Cri de Coeur From Tigray, Ethiopia
In November 2020, the federal government of Ethiopia invaded its northern region of Tigray, in collusion with the Government of Eritrea and ethnic Amhara militias. The invading forces pillaged the schools, destroyed the transportation infrastructure, burned crops and killed livestock, and looted the health care system. Thousands of civilians were killed, often in extrajudicial executions. Thousands of Tigrayan women were raped. Tens of thousands of Tigrayans fled to Sudan as refugees. Hundreds of thousands face famine and millions more have been internally displaced. The region is under a total communications blackout. The...

Induction of Cellular Senescence in Rat Vaginal Fibroblasts and Treatment With Senolytics: An in Vitro Model for the Study of Pelvic Organ Prolapse
The objective of this study was to develop an in vitro model of cellular senescence using rat vaginal fibroblasts and determine the effects of treatment with senolytics. Methods Rat vaginal tissue biopsies were collected. Primary vaginal fibroblasts were isolated and characterized by immunofluorescence. To induce cellular senescence, fibroblasts were treated with etoposide at 3, 10, and 20 mM for 24 hours, followed by treatment with the senolytics dasatinib (1 mM) and/or quercetin (20 mM). After treatment, RNA was extracted and the expression of selected genes was quantified. Immunostaining of senescence markers was...

Effect of COVID-19 on Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Education and Training
Conclusions There was a high rate of redeployment among fellows; however, this was not associated with their reported needs and difficulties. The FPMRS-related surgical experience was affected during this time, and the fellows desired increased surgical simulation training. (Source: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery)

Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience Reporting of Events Related to Transvaginal Mesh: Understanding the Data
Conclusions The MAUDE database allows physicians, manufacturers, and patients to immediately report adverse events experienced due to medical devices. While this database is an important means to identify potential danger to patients, any individual can file a report and, thus, it should not be the sole source of evidence to consider when assessing device safety. Further, the MAUDE database provides no information into the total number of cases performed without complication. (Source: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery)

How Does the Urethra Respond to Bladder Filling in Continent and Incontinent Women?
The objective of this study was to describe mean urethral pressure (MUP) during filling cystometry in continent and incontinent women. Methods Incontinent women were recruited from a urogynecology clinic if they answered “sometimes” or “always” to 1 of the items on the Medical, Epidemiologic, and Social Aspects of Aging questionnaire. Participants were categorized by Medical, Epidemiologic, and Social Aspects of Aging scores into stress urinary incontinence (SUI) or urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) groups. Continent women were recruited from the community. Multichannel urodynamics were performed using micr...

Pelvic Organ Prolapse Takes Up Space in the Bedroom: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Circular Sexual Response Cycle in Women With Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Conclusions The circular sexual response cycle largely fit participants’ experiences; however, POP inhibits subjective arousal, which prevents responsive desire for many. Patients may need better support to cope with preoccupation with POP, indicating that addressing the psychosocial symptoms of POP should be prioritized. Comparing Urine Specimen Collection Methods for Urinalysis and Culture Agreement: A Paired Sample Design
Conclusions Our data indicate that catheterized urine specimens should be used in the evaluation of urinary tract infection or microscopic hematuria in the typical patient presenting to a urogynecology office who is often menopausal, overweight, and may have prolapse. Relationship Between Blood Glucose Level and Prevalence and Frequency of Stress Urinary Incontinence in Women
Conclusions We found that the prevalence and frequency of SUI in women were positively correlated with blood glucose levels, and these findings warrant further study and application to clinical practice to control SUI in women. (Source: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery)

Characterizing Adverse Events Reporting for an Over-the-Counter Disposable Intravaginal Support Device for Stress Urinary Incontinence
Conclusions Most complications attributed to device use were self-managed or managed in the outpatient setting. No emergent hospitalizations or deaths were attributed to their use, supporting their generally low-risk profile and high tolerability. Limitations of this review include the inability to decipher a denominator for these reported adverse events and the potential bias attributed to voluntary consumer reporting. A Randomized Trial of Social Media Versus Search Engine Advertising to Increase Awareness of Treatments for Female Stress Urinary Incontinence
Importance Outreach based on user characteristics through social media advertising is significantly more effective than outreach based on user interests with search engine advertising for female stress urinary incontinence. Objective The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of 2 online outreach platforms to engage women at risk of stress urinary incontinence with a high-quality patient education website. Study Design A geographic randomized trial was performed comparing online advertising on Facebook, a social media site, versus Google Ads, a search engine, to direct viewers to VoicesForPFD.o...
