Small Fiber Polyneuropathy Is Associated With Non–Bladder-Centric Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome Patients
Conclusions In this pilot study, SFPN was significantly more common in non–bladder-centric IC/BPS, that is, those patients who also reported greater prevalence of NUS, including fibromyalgia, migraines, anxiety/panic disorders, allergies, and asthma. These findings suggest that SFPN may have an etiologic role in a larger, systemic pain syndrome and should be explored further. (Source: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery)

Out of “Site”: Low Utilization of the American Urogynecologic Society’s Online Patient Resources in an Observational Study Using Website Analytics
Conclusions Utilization of VoicesForPFD.org by U.S. women with symptomatic PFDs is very low. More research is needed on methods to engage women online and through social media to provide them with high-quality PFD treatment information. The aims of the study were to estimate utilization of the American Urogynecologic Society’s patient education website, VoicesForPFD.org, by women with pelvic floor disorders (PFDs), to describe users over time and how they found the site, and to evaluate use of content areas of the site. Impact of Genital Hiatus Size on Anatomic Outcomes After Mesh-Augmented Sacrospinous Ligament Fixation
Conclusions A persistently wide genital hiatus alone was not associated with anatomic failure in this small study cohort. Therefore, surgical reduction of the genital hiatus with level III support procedures may not affect prolapse recurrence at the time of mesh-augmented sacrospinous ligament fixation. Further studies are needed to confirm this relationship and investigate other potential mechanisms for these findings. (Source: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery)

Female Urethroplasty With Dorsal Onlay Labia Minora Graft: Technical Details and Initial Results
The objective of this study was to evaluate the functional results of dorsal onlay labia minora graft urethroplasty in the treatment of female urethral strictures. Materials and Methods Data were retrospectively examined for 13 patients who underwent augmentation urethroplasty through the dorsal approach using labia minora grafts between September 2017 and January 2019. Demographic, intraoperative, and postoperative data and follow-up conditions were recorded for all patients. Results The mean age of the patients was calculated as 48.2±7 years. The etiology of urethral strictures was found to be trauma in 2 ...

Primary and Specialty Outpatient Visits for Older Women With Urinary Incontinence: A Comparison of Nurses to the General Population
Conclusions We found that less than 7% of older women had outpatient evaluation of UI symptoms during a 12-month period, despite UI being very common in this age group. This was similar in nurses and the general population, suggesting that even high health care literacy does not increase UI care seeking. (Source: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery)

Correlation Between Hypertrophic Cervical Elongation and Pelvic Organ Prolapse
This study assessed the relationship of POP with hypertrophic cervical elongation according to menopausal status and the pelvic compartment involved in prolapse. Methods This retrospective single-center case-control study was conducted at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University between January 2017 and May 2019. Transverse and anteroposterior diameter of the cervix and cervical length were obtained by manual intravaginal measurement for 508 patients with POP and 510 patients without POP. Data were analyzed based on POP compartment and menopausal status. Results In the premenopausal group, there was a s...

Disparity of Racial/Ethnic Representation in Publications Contributing to Overactive Bladder Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines
Conclusions The evidence based on the overactive bladder guidelines is derived from studies that frequently failed to report race/ethnicity and is not reflective of the U.S. population. Black, Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native participants that are underrepresented in U.S.-based studies, highlighting the need for more inclusive recruitment strategies in overactive bladder research. Bare Versus Hair: Do Pubic Hair Grooming Preferences Dictate the Urogenital Microbiome?
Objective The aim of the study was to determine whether the genitourinary microbiome differs between and within women with and without pubic hair. Methods Premenopausal women who self-identified into 2 groups were recruited: in the “hair” group, women did not remove any pubic hair, and in the “bare” group, all pubic hair was removed routinely. Participants submitted a vaginal swab, a voided urine sample, and a catheterized urine sample, and then “crossed over.” The “hair” group removed all hair for 1 month, and the “bare” group grew hair for 2 months. After crossover, participants again submi...

The Association of Preoperative Medication Administration and Preoperative and Intraoperative Factors With Postoperative Urinary Retention After Urogynecologic Surgery
Discussion Although preoperative medication administration was not associated with PUR, other clinically important variables were age older than 60 years, vaginal hysterectomy, incontinence and prolapse surgery, or longer procedure time. Sacrocolpopexy reduced the odds of PUR by approximately 80%. These factors may be useful in preoperative and postoperative counseling regarding PUR after urogynecologic surgery. Same-Day Discharge After Minimally Invasive Sacrocolpopexy Is Feasible, Safe, and Associated With High Patient Satisfaction
This study aimed to compare the incidence of adverse events and postoperative health care resource utilization, as well as to determine satisfaction in patients after a same-day discharge (SDD) protocol compared with routine care (discharge ≥postoperative day 1). Methods This is a prospective cohort study of SDD after minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy. Eligibility criteria included age younger than 80 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists grade I/II, caretaker for ≥24 hours postoperatively, and surgical start before 1 pm. Perioperative data were obtained through the medical record and direct patient inqui...

Timing and Success of Postoperative Voiding Trial After Colpocleisis With and Without Concomitant Midurethral Sling
Objective The aim of this study was to compare failure rates of first voiding trial (VT) within 7 days and on postoperative day (POD) 1 after colpocleisis with versus without concomitant midurethral sling (MUS). Predictors of POD 1 VT failure were also examined. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study of women undergoing colpocleisis from January 2012 to October 2019 comparing VT outcomes with versus without MUS. Primary outcome was first VT failure within 7 days; outcomes of VTs performed on POD 1 were also assessed. Association between MUS and VT failure and predictors of POD 1 VT failure were assessed v...
