Incidence of muscle symptoms in placebo arm among statin-intolerant patients: a systematic review with meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: In patients previously labeled as statin-intolerant, about a fifth of the patients exhibited muscle symptoms when receiving a placebo. This highlights the importance of ruling out non-statin-related symptoms to further optimize statin therapy for cardiovascular risk improvement.PMID:37916684 | DOI:10.1080/14779072.2023.2274502 (Source: Expert Review of Cardiovascular Therapy)

Contemporary management of infective endocarditis in pregnancy
This article explores existing literature on the topic including case reports, case series, registry data, and clinical guidelines. The focus of this article is the evolving epidemiology, predisposing factors and preventative measures, clinical presentation, investigation, management, and potential complications of IE in pregnancy.EXPERT OPINION: Robust prospective data on the management of IE in pregnancy is lacking, and obtaining these data will be very challenging. It is imperative that international registries are used to provide data on best clinical practices and inform future clinical guidelines. Multimodal imaging ...

Reducing bleeding risk in patients on oral anticoagulation therapy
Expert Rev Cardiovasc Ther. 2023 Oct 31. doi: 10.1080/14779072.2023.2275662. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Oral anticoagulation (OAC) significantly mitigates thromboembolism risks in atrial fibrillation (AF) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) patients yet concern about major bleeding events persist. In fact, clinically relevant hemorrhages can be life-threatening. Bleeding risk is dynamic and influenced by factors such as age, new comorbidities, and drug therapies, and should not be assessed solely based on static baseline factors.AREAS COVERED: We comprehensively review the bleeding risk associated with OAC th...

Optimal use of intravenous landiolol in acute cardiac care
Expert Rev Cardiovasc Ther. 2023 Oct 30. doi: 10.1080/14779072.2023.2277354. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: B-blockers are regarded as beneficial pharmacologic agents in cardiac care but their role in the acute setting remains ambiguous. Increasing evidence supports the important role of landiolol in critical care, a highly cardioselective intravenous b-blocker with rapid onset of action and short elimination time. Among its most valuable properties, that may aid to overcome special reservations related to b-blocker therapy in the acute setting, landiolol has a potent negative chronotropic effect while at the ...
