Relationship between quadriceps femoris echotexture biomarkers and muscle strength and physical function in older adults with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
CONCLUSIONS: Echotexture biomarkers are related to women's muscle strength and physical function, especially muscle energy, contrast, and entropy. Echotexture biomarkers assessed by the US could facilitate the management of older adults with HFpEF, monitor its progression and assess the effectiveness of treatments on the musculoskeletal structure.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT03909919. Protective effects of emodin on subchondral bone and articular cartilage in osteoporotic osteoarthritis rats: A preclinical study
CONCLUSION: Emo intervention mitigates bone loss and cartilage damage in OP-OA rats and promotes the osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation of BMSCs.PMID:38570055 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112413 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

The characteristics of the body mass frequency index in dysmobility syndrome: A pilot study
CONCLUSION: The measurement of BMFI has demonstrated disparities in musculoskeletal status among older adults with and without DS. Notably, BMFI exhibits a unique predictive capacity for DS among the elderly population.PMID:38570056 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112414 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Associations of infections and vaccines with Alzheimer's disease point to a role of compromised immunity rather than specific pathogen in AD
This study also found significant associations of various infections with the risk of AD, but not with the risks of other dementias. This indicates that vulnerability to infections may play a more significant role in AD than in other types of dementia, which warrants further investigation.PMID:38548241 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112411 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

The effect of a combined lifestyle intervention with and without protein drink on inflammation in older adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSION: 13 weeks of combined lifestyle intervention, either with or without protein drink, reduced circulating adipokines and anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-1RA, and increased inflammatory ratios TNF-α/IL-10 and TNF-α/IL-1RA in older adults with obesity and T2D. Effect on CLIP was inversely related to baseline inflammatory status.PMID:38527636 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112410 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Chuanzhitongluo capsule improves cognitive impairment in mice with chronic cerebral hypoperfusion via the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway
In conclusion, CZTL may alleviate neuroinflammation induced by CCH and improve cognitive impairment in CCH mice by regulating the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAIP) involving ChAT/α7nAChR/NF-κB.PMID:38522309 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112407 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Microbiome interactions with different risk factors in development of myocardial infarction
Exp Gerontol. 2024 Mar 22:112409. doi: 10.1016/j.exger.2024.112409. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAmong all non-communicable diseases, Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) stand as the leading global cause of mortality. Within this spectrum, Myocardial Infarction (MI) strikingly accounts for over 15 % of all deaths. The intricate web of risk factors for MI, comprising family history, tobacco use, oral health, hypertension, nutritional pattern, and microbial infections, is firmly influenced by the human gut and oral microbiota, their diversity, richness, and dysbiosis, along with their respective metabolites. Host genetic factors...
