The effects of PPAR γ inhibitor on bones and bone marrow fat in aged glucocorticoid-treated female rats
In conclusion, BADGE treatment attenuates BM adiposity and improves bone formation in aged GC-treated female rats by inhibiting PPARγ. Therefore, PPARγ might be a potential target for treating GIO in older populations.PMID:37659742 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2023.112281 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

High-intensity interval training reduces the induction of neutrophil extracellular traps in older men using live-neutrophil imaging as biosensor
In conclusion, HIIT is a feasible non-invasive training strategy modulating NETosis induction. Additionally, the use of neutrophils as a biosensor is an effective method for the quantification of NETosis induction in real time.PMID:37659743 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2023.112280 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Optimizing outdoor fitness equipment training for older adults: Benefits and future directions for healthy aging
Exp Gerontol. 2023 Aug 22;181:112279. doi: 10.1016/j.exger.2023.112279. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRegular physical activity is vital for the health and disease prevention of older adults. Outdoor fitness equipment has gained popularity for natural exercise spaces among middle-aged and older individuals. This narrative review demonstrates that these programs have the potential to improve cardiovascular health, muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and reduce falls, while also enhancing quality of life, alleviating depression and anxiety, and boosting self-esteem. However, our understanding is hindered by limited rigoro...

Segmental extracellular-to-intracellular water resistance ratio and physical function in older adults
CONCLUSIONS: The Recw/Ricw ratio is useful for identifying older adults with worse physical function. The Recw/Ricw ratio allows for easy and timely screening of older adults with worse physical function in clinical settings.PMID:37597709 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2023.112278 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Lower back muscle activity during weight-shifting is affected by ageing and dual-tasking
CONCLUSION: Older adults showed a higher erector spinae muscle contribution to perform weight-shifts with increased variability at the end of a shift, whereby muscle activity was modulated less well in older than in young adults in response to DT. Hence, the current findings point to the potential for developing postural training in which older adults learn to fine-tune trunk muscle activity to improve weight-shifting and reduce fall risk.PMID:37597710 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2023.112271 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)
