Implications of an Altered Gut Microbiome in Rat Experimental Vascularized Composite Transplantation
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest a complex interaction among major histocompatibility complex, local and systemic immuno-inflammation, and tacrolimus therapy and highlight the potential for novel insights into vascularized composite allotransplant from computational approaches.PMID:38511984 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0312 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation)

MIR96 Has Good Potential to Differentiate Human Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells into Photoreceptor-Like Cells
CONCLUSIONS: Control of the expression of MIR96 can be a good strategy to promote cell differentiation and can be used in cell therapy for retinal degeneration. Our results showed that human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into photoreceptor cells after transfection with MIR96. These results support therapeutic use of MIR96 in retinal degeneration and suggest human bone marrowderived mesenchymal stem cells as a promising tool for interventions.PMID:38511985 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0300 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation)

Laparoscopic Nephrectomy Via the Retroperitoneal Approach for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease After Renal Transplant: A Case Report
We report a case of laparoscopic nephrectomy via the retroperitoneal approach for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease after renal transplant. A 54-year-old male patient with end-stage renal failure because of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease underwent a living donor renal transplant and right nephrectomy via open surgery through a median abdominal incision 5 years previously. However, the left kidney gradually became enlarged. We performed laparoscopic left nephrectomy via the retroperitoneal approach. After dissecting the renal vessels, we performed cyst puncture and aspiration to decrease the kidney ...

Successful Anesthesia Management of Pediatric Living Donor Liver Transplant With Mild Bilateral Pulmonary Artery Stenosis Due to Alagille Syndrome: A Case Report
Exp Clin Transplant. 2024 Feb;22(2):160-164. doi: 10.6002/ect.2023.0308.ABSTRACTAlagille syndrome is an autosomal-dominantinherited disease characterized by intrahepatic bile duct involvement, congenital heart disease, eye anomalies, skeletal and central nervous system involvement, kidney anomalies, and facial appearance. Liver transplant is the only treatment option for patients with end-stage liver disease and Alagille syndrome. Bilateral peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis is a contraindication for liver transplant due to high mortality, and the decision for liver transplant in patients with bilateral peripheral pulmon...

An Overview of Liver Transplantation: Current Status, Recent Techniques, and Challenges-Perspectives From a Center in China
Exp Clin Transplant. 2024 Feb;22(2):85-92. doi: 10.6002/ect.2023.0342.ABSTRACTLiver transplantation is the best way to treat end-stage liver disease. With benefits from enhanced techniques, refined management, and advanced medications, liver transplant boasts a commendable 5-year survival rate for recipients. Nevertheless, acquiring the perioperative management and surgical skills essential for liver transplant is a time-consuming process for new surgeons. In addition, COVID-19 has also affected the field. Based on our actual situation in China, we have provided an overview of donor evaluation, recipient selection,transplant...

Renal Transplant in Elderly End-Stage Renal Disease Patients: Impact of Comorbidities and Posttransplant Adverse Events on Outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Elderly renaltransplantrecipients showed promising 5-year patient and death-censored graft survival, exceeding 80%, despite higher mortality risk compared with young recipients. Optimizing outcomes of elderly renal transplant necessitates a multifaceted approach encompassing meticulous pretransplant cardiovascular disease assessment, rigorous posttransplant chest infection prevention and management, and proactive monitoring for early posttransplant kidney dysfunction, to permit timely intervention.PMID:38511980 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0301 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of...

Effect of Body Composition on Graft Function and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Normotensive Renal Transplant Recipients
CONCLUSIONS: Lean body mass significantly influences left ventricular mass index and renal resistive index. Hence, body composition analysis could be an early predictor of graft function and cardiovascular outcomes in normotensive renal transplant recipients.PMID:38511981 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0192 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation)

Factors Associated with Chronic Rejection in Liver Transplant Recipients: A Retrospective Cohort Study From Shiraz Organ Transplant Center
CONCLUSIONS: Recipient sex and sex concordance were independent risk factors for chronic rejection. Most transplantrecipients with chronic rejection responded to medicaltreatment, and the rate of graftloss was low among our recipients.PMID:38511982 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0317 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation)

Effects of Extracellular Calcium Concentration on Hepatic Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in a Rat Model
CONCLUSIONS: Administering calcium to rats with hypocalcemia did not increase intracellular calcium accumulation but instead resulted in less hepatic injury compared with rats with low extracellular calcium concentrations in this rat model study.PMID:38511983 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0307 (Source: Experimental and Clinical Transplantation : official journal of the Middle East Society for Organ Transplantation)
