Video Consultation for Parents with a Child Newly Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes: A Qualitative Study
Conclusion Video consultations as a supplementary offer of health care, especially after diabetes onset, were considered very helpful by the affected families. High-frequency video consultations may provide a tool to overcome existing deficiencies in specialized diabetes care. Autonomous Aldosterone Secretion as a Subclinical Form of Primary Aldosteronism: Pathogenesis and Clinical Significance
Exp Clin Endocrinol Diabetes DOI: 10.1055/a-1556-7784In recent years, a substantial prevalence of primary aldosteronism (PA) has been demonstrated in both normotensive and mildly hypertensive cohorts. Consequently, a classic presentation of the syndrome, i. e. moderate-to-severe and resistant hypertension with concomitant hypokalemia, should be considered a tip-of-the-iceberg phenotype of a wide PA spectrum. Its entire range encompasses the non-classic clinical forms of mild hypertension and prehypertension but also several biochemical presentations, including p...

Elevated Serum Levels of Carbohydrate Antigen 72 –4 in Diabetic Kidney Disease
In conclusion, serum levels of CA72–4 increase abnormally with the increase in urinary albumin excretion, which affects the specificity of diagnosis of malignancies. An appropriate interpretation of CA72–4 is essential to prevent unnecessary and even hazardous diagnostic procedures in patients with T2DM. Severe Acquired Primary Hypothyroidism in Children and its Influence on Growth: A Retrospective Analysis of 43 Cases
Conclusion This so far largest pediatric cohort with severe acquired hypothyroidism confirms a serious impact on growth which, however in most cases, showed a certain catch-up growth after adequate L-thyroxine therapy. The pubertal state seems to be important for catch-up growth. A significant number of patients were not diagnosed clinically, although affected by severe hypothyroidism. Intracellular ATP Signaling Contributes to FAM3A-Induced PDX1 Upregulation in Pancreatic Beta Cells
In this study, the role of intracellular ATP in FAM3A-induced PDX1 expression in pancreatic β cells was further examined. Acute FAM3A inhibition using siRNA transfection in mouse pancreatic islets significantly reduced PDX1 expression, impaired insulin secretion, and caused glucose intolerance in normal mice. In vitro, FAM3A overexpression elevated both intracellular and extracellular ATP contents and promoted PDX1 expression and insulin secretion. FAM3A-induced increase in cellular calcium (Ca2+) levels, PDX1 expression, and insulin secretion, ...

Clinical Significance of Coexistence of Hashimoto Thyroiditis and Graves ’ Disease with Differentiated and Medullary Thyroid Cancer
In conclusion, Hashimoto thyroiditis, but not Graves’ disease, may be associated with differentiated (papillary and follicular) thyroid cancer but not with medullary thyroid cancer. The Effect of Educational Program on Pain Management, Self-Efficacy Behavior, and Quality of Life among Adult Diabetic Patients with Peripheral Neuropathy Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Conclusion This study shows that the design and implementation of educational intervention combined with routine diabetic care facilitate effective pain management, self-efficacy behaviors, and QoL of patients with PDPN. The health care providers are recommended to use the educational programs for such patients at various levels of services in both health centers and diabetes clinics. Idiopathic Frozen Shoulder in Individuals with Diabetes: Association with Metabolic Control, Obesity, Antidiabetic Treatment and Demographic Characteristics in Adults with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes from the DPV Registry
Conclusions Different associations of FS with gender and HbA1c were observed for T1D and T2D; however, longer diabetes duration increases the risk for FS independent of diabetes type. Musculoskeletal diseases are still underreported in individuals with diabetes and awareness should be raised for FS as a specific diabetes complication. Thyroid Nodules in Patients with Acromegaly: Frequency According to the ACR TI-RADS Classification and its Relationship with Disease Activity
Conclusion: In our study, we found that the frequency of thyroid nodules, the number of thyroid nodules, and the number of TI-RADS 1, TI-RADS 2, and TI-RADS 4 nodules increased in patients with acromegaly. There was no significant difference between acromegaly disease activity and thyroid nodule frequency, number of thyroid nodules, and TI-RADS classifications. Association of Serum Myostatin with Body Weight, Visceral Fat Volume, and High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein But Not With Muscle Mass and Physical Fitness in Premenopausal Women
Conclusions Our observation of elevated serum myostatin in women with a higher body fat percentage, visceral obesity, and elevated c-reactive protein suggests that this myokine contributes to the altered muscle-adipose tissue crosstalk in metabolic syndrome. Elevated myostatin may advance this pathophysiologic process and could also impair the efficacy of exercise interventions. Further mechanistic studies, therefore, seem warranted. Hepatic Meteorin-like and Kr üppel-like Factor 3 are Associated with Weight Loss and Liver Injury
Conclusions The novel description of METRNL and KLF3 as hepatokines could pave the way to target their production and/or signaling in obesity, NAFLD, and related disorders. Both proteins may act as possible biomarkers to estimate weight loss after bariatric surgery.
