Sacroiliac joint pain increases repositioning error during active straight leg-raising
ConclusionPatients with SIJP increased RE during ASLR, which may be related to impaired proprioception and decreased motor control. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Relationship between pelvic incidence-adjusted relative spinopelvic parameters, global sagittal alignment and lower extremity compensations
ConclusionsPI-adjusted relative spinopelvic parameters significantly correlated with measurements of the lower extremity compensation. Postoperative changes in RPV, RLL and RSA reflected changes in FOA, KFA and GSA. These measurements may serve as a valuable proxy for surgical planning when whole-body imaging is not available. Novel assessment of physiotherapy outcomes in adults with structural spinal disorders
ConclusionsThis study found that our developed P-test was a useful predictor of achieving the ODI-MCID in a cohort of adults with structural spinal disorders receiving at least 3 months of physiotherapy. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Health professionals ’ perspective on the applicability of AO Spine PROST (patient reported outcome Spine trauma) in people with a motor-complete traumatic or non-traumatic spinal cord injury
ConclusionHealth professionals found the AO Spine PROST generally applicable for people with motor-complete traumatic or non-traumatic SCI. This study provides further evidence for the use of the AO Spine PROST in spine trauma care, rehabilitation and research, as well as suggestions for its further development. Risk factors for ninety-day readmissions following full-endoscopic transforaminal lumbar discectomy for 1542 patients in the biggest spine institutes in Korea
ConclusionsThis study shows that the elderly age group, presence of spondylolisthesis, segmental instability and decreased muscle cross-sectional area are independent risk factors for 90-day hospital readmissions. Patients having the above risk factors should be carefully counseled regarding the possibility of readmission in the future. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Clinical management and prognosis of spinal myxopapillary ependymoma: a single-institution cohort of 72 patients
ConclusionComplete surgical resection under the premise of protecting neurological function is an important factor in reducing spinal MPE recurrence. Adjuvant RT is recommended when the tumor invades the capsule with preoperative drop metastasis or adhesion to the nerve and cannot reach GTR. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Association between immediate postoperative hypoalbuminemia and surgical site infection after posterior lumbar fusion surgery
ConclusionsThis study showed that immediate postoperative hypoalbuminemia was an independent risk factor for the development of SSI in patients who underwent posterior lumbar fusion. Even in patients with a normal preoperative serum albumin level, there was an increased risk of SSI when the postoperative albumin within 24 h was < 32 g/L. (Source: European Spine Journal)

A retrospective review of single-position prone lateral lumbar interbody fusion cases: early learning curve and perioperative outcomes
ConclusionOur single-surgeon experience demonstrates the initial learning curve when adopting pLLIF. Thereafter, we experienced reproducibility in our technique and large improvements in our operative times, and complication profile. We experienced no technical complications after the 30th case. Further studies will include long-term clinical and radiographic outcomes to understand the complete utility of this approach. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Cervical spine fractures in ankylosing spondylitis patients: an analysis of the presentation and clinical results of 110 surgically managed patients in two spine centers
ConclusionHigh suspicion of cervical spine fractures is necessary for patients with AS. CT and MRI images are necessary to rule out cervical spine fractures in AS patients, especially to detect occult fractures. Surgical treatment is safe, and the posterior approach with long-segment fusion is the approach of choice in this group of patients. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Surgeon reported practice patterns related to full endoscopic cervical decompression procedures
ConclusionCervical endoscopic spine surgery is gaining traction among spine surgeons. However, by far most surgeons performing cervical endoscopic spine surgery work in private practice and are autodidacts. This lack of a teacher to shorten the learning curve as well as fear of complications are two of the major impediments to the successful implementation of cervical endoscopic procedures. Bullying, harassment, and discrimination of musculoskeletal researchers and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic: an international study
ConclusionsTo our knowledge, this is the first study to address the prevalence and determinants of BHD among MSK researchers. MSK researchers experienced and observed BHD, while many were not comfortable reporting and discussing violations to their institution. The COVID-19 pandemic had mixed-effects on BHD. Awareness and proactive policy changes may be warranted to reduce/eliminate the occurrence of BHD in this community. (Source: European Spine Journal)

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) identification of chemically painful lumbar discs leads to improved 6-, 12-, and 24-month outcomes for discogenic low back pain surgeries
ConclusionMore successful, sustained outcomes were obtained when surgically treating chemically painful discs identified by NOCISCAN-LS post-processed disc MRS exams. Results suggest that NOCISCAN-LS provides a valuable new diagnostic tool to help clinicians better select treatment levels. (Source: European Spine Journal)
