Exploring the impact of dexmedetomidine on short-term outcomes in critically ill sepsis-associated encephalopathy patients
CONCLUSIONS: Dexmedetomidine administration was significantly associated with reduced short-term mortality among patients with sepsis-associated encephalopathy in the ICU. However, it also prolonged ICU and hospital stays and increased the incidence of VAP.PMID:38639512 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35901 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Effect of Nutrition and Behavior Modification Program (NBMP) on maternal and neonatal outcomes among hyperglycemic mothers
CONCLUSIONS: The study's conclusions draw attention to the possible roles that maternal wellness, physical activity, and diet may have in reducing risks for both hyperglycemic mothers and their newborns. The NBMP resulted in higher adherence to lifestyle changes. Further research on a larger sample of hyperglycemic mothers is recommended to expand the generalizability of the findings.PMID:38639514 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35903 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Evaluation of prediabetes patients in terms of metabolic syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Hypertension, dyslipidemia, abdominal obesity, and metabolic obesity increased in the coexistence of prediabetes and MetS. At the same time, the coexistence of prediabetes and MetS was associated with higher systolic blood pressure, postprandial blood sugar, and LDL levels. Prediabetic individuals accompanied by MetS are at greater metabolic risk.PMID:38639515 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35904 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Factors influencing the therapeutic failure of high-flow nasal cannula oxygen humidification in patients with interstitial pneumonia complicated by respiratory failure
CONCLUSIONS: The HFNC failure rate in patients with IP and respiratory failure is 15.8%. Pre-treatment PaO2/FiO2 ratio, CRP, CONUT, and GCS scores are independent factors associated with HFNC treatment failure and warrant clinical attention.PMID:38639516 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35905 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for reducing postoperative acute pain after hip fracture surgery: a double-blinded randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study indicate that TENS application to the surgical wound, lumbar plexus, and sciatic nerve using anatomical landmarks can significantly reduce postoperative pain, as demonstrated by the higher VAS scores, higher total analgesic consumption and high additional analgesic need in the control group after hip fracture surgery.CLINICALTRIALS: gov ID: NCT02642796.PMID:38639518 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35907 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Workload reduction through automated documentation in intensive and intermediate care - a monocentric observational study
CONCLUSIONS: A non-negligible part of the daily working time in the medical sector is spent on documentation duties. This aggravates the high workload, which has increased in recent years. Automated documentation systems can lead to considerable relief and the possibility of focusing primarily on the patient and on other core competencies and activities. This is even more important, as available staff will be a key resource in patient care for the foreseeable future.PMID:38639519 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35908 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Is aortic knob width a novel predictor of mortality in hemodialysis patients?
CONCLUSIONS: Age, male gender, aortic calcification, and hypertension are the primary risk factors for increased aortic knob width in hemodialysis patients. Aortic knob width greater than 37.98 mm, which can be measured simply and rapidly using posterior-anterior chest radiography, may be a predictor of mortality.GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT: https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/Graphical-Abstract-10.jpg.PMID:38639520 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35909 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that allicin administration improves ischemia/reperfusion-induced testicular damage by limiting reactive oxygen species generation via inhibition of xanthine oxidase expression.PMID:38639521 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35910 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Study on the construction of nomogram prediction model for prognostic assessment of heart failure patients based on serological markers and echocardiography
CONCLUSIONS: MEWS, LVEDD, and sST2 increase as the NYHA cardiac function grade of HF patients increases and LVEF decreases, which can reflect the severity of the disease to a certain extent. Additionally, the nomogram model established based on this has a high predictive value for the long-term prognosis of patients and can formulate effective intervention measures for quantitative values.PMID:38639523 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35913 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Transit time flow measurement in off-pump surgery: is it a functional index of the biological graft integrity?
CONCLUSIONS: Diabetic patients, especially in the insulin-dependent subgroups, have demonstrated lower MGF and higher PI values collected from venous anastomoses with, conversely, inverse results from the arterial one. These results might be correlated to an altered biological adaptability caused by the effects of the diabetic endocrine disorder.PMID:38639524 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35914 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)
