The CRISPR-Cas9 induced CCR5 Δ32 mutation as a potent gene therapy methodology for resistance to HIV-1 variant: a review
Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2024 Mar;28(6):2430-2463. doi: 10.26355/eurrev_202403_35751.ABSTRACTHuman Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) has continuously been the greatest epidemic for humanity over a period spanning almost five decades. With no specific cure or treatment available to date despite extensive research, the C-C Chemokine Receptor 5, Delta 32 (CCR5 Δ32) allele genetic point mutation plays an imperative role in the prevention of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This comprehensive study aims to review the induction of the homozygous recessive deletion genotype using the Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short ...

Association of SOD1 gene variants (50 bp Ins/Del, rs4817415, rs2070424, rs1041740, rs17880135) with plasma protein levels in vitiligo patients and their analysis in silico
CONCLUSIONS: Information regarding the pathogenesis of vitiligo helps recognize risk factors and identify the relationship of diagnostic markers of cell damage inherent to the disease. This will help improve aspects of prevention and the choice of treatment alternatives appropriate to each case.PMID:38567607 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35752 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Effects of different doses of remimazolam on hemodynamics during general anesthesia in patients with septic shock
CONCLUSIONS: Remimazolam is safe and effective for inducing general anesthesia in patients with septic shock. Low, medium, and high doses of remimazolam can maintain a stable hemodynamic state, and the recovery of hepatic and renal function is certain to depend on the dose.PMID:38567608 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35755 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Development and validation of a comprehensive model to predict complications after hepatectomy
CONCLUSIONS: We developed an accurate and practical scoring system based on preoperative and early postoperative data to predict poor outcomes after hepatectomy. Further external validation on larger series could lead to the integration of such a tool in the routine clinical practice to support patients' management and early warning during ICU stay.GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT: https://www.europeanreview.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/Graphical-Abstract-NEW-2.pdf.PMID:38567611 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35758 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

A comparative perspective on brucellar, pyogenic, and tuberculous spondylodiscitis
CONCLUSIONS: Weight loss, painless palpation, involved thoracic spine, psoas abscess, and neurologic deficit are symptoms favoring tuberculous spondylodiscitis. History of spine surgery, high fever, skin erythema, and paraspinal abscess are findings in favor of pyogenic spondylodiscitis. Rural living, sweating, and involved lumbar spine are symptoms that indicate brucellar spondylodiscitis. These symptoms can be used to distinguish the types of spondylodiscitis.PMID:38567614 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35761 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Analysis of candidemia cases in a city hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: As our study observed, the COVID-19 pandemic brought increasing numbers of immunosuppressed patients, widespread use of antibacterials, and central venous catheters, increasing the frequency and mortality of candidemia cases. All health institutions should be prepared for the diagnosis and treatment of candidemia. In addition, C. auris, the frequency of which has increased in recent years, is a new factor that should be considered in candidemia cases.PMID:38567615 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35762 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)

Severity of COVID-19 manifestations in HIV patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: PLWHs and HIV-negative individuals showed comparable rates and intensity of COVID-19. ART users exhibited immunological health comparable to immunocompetent people, demonstrating the essential role of ART in reducing the severity and mortality of PLWH with COVID-19.PMID:38567616 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35763 (Source: European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences)
