Complete sequence of the ANKK1 gene in Mexican-Mestizo individuals with obesity, with or without binge eating disorder
ConclusionsTo our knowledge, this constitutes the first report where the complete sequences of ANKK1 has been analyzed in individuals with obesity, with or without BED. No mutations were found; however, one polymorphism was associated with obesity, with or without BED, and another one was associated with BED. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Estimate dynamic changes of dysfunction and lifelong spent for psychiatric care needs in patients with schizophrenia
ConclusionsThe developed method of analysis indicated that the longest lifetime durations of manifest disability were observed in the areas of socially-useful activities and personal and social relationships, and the proportions of patients with these disabilities rapidly increased at 200 months after diagnosis. How to improve clinical practice on forced medication in psychiatric practice: Suggestions from the EUNOMIA European multicentre study
ConclusionThe results of our study show the need of developing guidelines on the use of forced medication in psychiatric practice, that should be considered as the last resort and only when other therapeutic option have failed. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Interventions for involuntary psychiatric inpatients: A systematic review
ConclusionsThis review shows that it is possible to conduct rigorous intervention-testing studies in involuntary patients, including RCTs. Yet, the overall evidence is limited. Structured patient-centred care planning interventions show promise for the improvement of long-term outcomes and should be further evaluated. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Adverse childhood experiences leads to perceived negative attitude of others and the effect of adverse childhood experiences on depression in adulthood is mediated via negative attitude of others
ConclusionsACEs have a direct and indirect, via depression, negative effect on how adult individuals perceive other people's attitude towards themselves. Additionally, negative AoO mediates the effects of ACEs on depression. Childhood EmoNeg associates specifically with negative AoO and DEPS in adulthood. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Value of schizophrenia treatment I: The patient journey
ConclusionsEarly detection and early intervention programs, timely intervention, and relapse prevention are essential for effective management of schizophrenia. It requires a paradigm shift from symptom control, achieving and maintaining remission, to the emphasis on recovery. Since the current services are not able to accomplish this goal, changes in mental health policies are needed. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Value of schizophrenia treatment II: Decision modelling for developing early detection and early intervention services in the Czech Republic
ConclusionsAdopting early detection and early intervention services in mental health systems based on psychiatric hospitals and with limited access to acute and community care could generate considerable cost- savings. Although the results of this modelling study needs to be taken with caution, early detection and early intervention services are recommended for multi-centre pilot testing accompanied by full economic evaluation in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. Serotonin transporter gene polymorphism as a predictor of short-term risk of suicide reattempts
ConclusionThe 5-HTTLPR polymorphisms predicted short-term risk of suicidal reattempt independently of age and sex. L-carriers have almost three times more risk of relapse when compared with SS carriers. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Functioning mediates help-seeking for mental problems in the general population
ConclusionOur cross-sectional data indicate a gap in help-seeking for mental problems/disorders. The relationship between number of mental problems/disorders and help-seeking mediated by functional impairment confirm that individuals commonly do not seek help until problems are severe enough to cause problems in occupational and psychosocial functioning, driving the already immense costs of mental disorders. Thus, campaigns promoting early help-seeking, including early diagnostic clarification of and support for subthreshold mental problems in terms of an indicated prevention, should focus on psychosocial functioning, asid...

Meteorological parameters and air pollen count in association with self-reported peripartum depressive symptoms
ConclusionsThere was no evidence that neither short-term nor long-term exposure to meteorological parameters or air pollen counts were associated with self-reported peripartum depressive symptoms in Uppsala, Sweden. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Who are the European youths willing to engage in radicalisation? A multidisciplinary review of their psychological and social profiles
ConclusionThere are many similarities between psychopathological manifestations of adolescence and mechanisms at stake during the radicalisation process. As a consequence, and despite the rarity of psychotic disorders, mental health professionals have a role to play in the treatment and understanding of radical engagement among European youth. Studies with empirical data are limited, and more research should be promoted (in particular in females and in non-Muslim communities) to better understand the phenomenon and to propose recommendations for prevention and treatment. Not intended, still embarrassed: Social anxiety is related to increased levels of embarrassment in response to unintentional social norm violations
ConclusionsThese findings indicate that increased embarrassment for unintentional SN violations is an important characteristic of social anxiety. These high levels of embarrassment are likely related to the debilitating concern of socially-anxious people that their skills and behavior do not meet expectations of others, and to their fear of blundering. This concern might be an important target for future therapeutic interventions. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Smoking cessation treatment outcomes among people with and without mental and substance use disorders: An observational real-world study
ConclusionThe inclusion of individuals with and without MSUD in the same protocol, allowing for individuals with MSUD undergoing their psychiatric treatment, generates at least comparable success rates between the groups. Predictors of treatment success were similar to those found in the general population. Facilities that treat patients with MSUD should treat tobacco use in order to reduce the disparities in morbidity and mortality experienced by this population. (Source: European Psychiatry)

Duration of active psychosis and functional outcomes in first-episode non-affective psychosis
ConclusionsDAT is strongly related to functional outcomes independent of the DUP period or other variables. As a modifiable variable, the reduction of the DAT should be considered a main focus of intervention from the onset of the illness to improve long-term outcomes. (Source: European Psychiatry)
