Association of Thyroid Hypofunction with Clinical Outcomes after Microvascular Decompression for Hemifacial Spasm
Conclusions: We found that decreased serum T4 levels are associated with poor postoperative outcomes among patients with HFS. Further studies are needed to examine the clinical benefit of thyroid hormone replacement therapy for patients with suboptimal T4 concentrations as well as active thyroid hormone screening for patients with HFS.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

Neurological Symptoms, Comorbidities, and Complications of COVID-19: A Literature Review and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies
Conclusion: The most prevalent neurological manifestations of COVID-19 include fatigue, gustatory dysfunction, anorexia, olfactory dysfunction, headache, dizziness, and nausea. Cerebrovascular disorders can either act as a risk factor for poorer prognosis in COVID-19 patients or occur as a critical complication in these patients. Guillain-Barre syndrome, encephalitis, and meningitis have also been reported as complications of COVID-19.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

Neurofilament Light Chain Levels Are Associated with Disease Activity Determined by No Evident Disease Activity in Multiple Sclerosis Patients
Conclusion: The results show that pNfL levels are a useful biomarker of disease activity determined by NEDA status in patients with MS and could be an alternative to brain magnetic resonance investigation.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

CT-Guided Autologous Blood Patch for High-Level Cervical Cerebrospinal Fluid Leakage: Imaging Characteristics and Treatment Safety and Efficiency
Conclusions: Imaging of water at the surrounding epidural space of high cervical level is a typical feature of dural rupture on both MRI and CT. CT-guided EBP is safe and efficient for the high-level cervical CSF leakage, especially for cases in which conservative treatments failed.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

< b > < i > Portrait of My Father: < /i > < /b > Frida Kahlo ’s Intimate Relation to Epilepsy
The paintingPortrait of My Father (1951) by the Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo, is discussed by the author within the context of epilepsy and biographical events in the lives of both Frida and her father, the German Mexican photographer Guillermo Kahlo. The biographical accounts of the photographer ’s seizures are suggestive of juvenile absence epilepsy but cannot discount the possibility of posttraumatic epilepsy of mesial frontal origin.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

Genotypic and Phenotypic Characteristics of Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy from China
Conclusions: Clinical and neuroimaging features are different among Chinese patients with mutations in exons 3 –4, exon 11, or other exons. Exon 11 showed characterized phenotype (the oldest age at diagnosis, the lowest mRS scores, and were most likely to have BG EPVS #x3e; 20 and atrophy), there were no significant differences between exons 3–4 and other exons.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

Diabetic Oculomotor Nerve Palsy Displaying Enhancement of the Oculomotor Nerve in the Orbit and Cavernous Sinus on MRI
Conclusion: Thickening and enhancement of the unilateral oculomotor nerve were common imaging findings in diabetic ONP, and they persisted after complete resolution of symptoms in some patients. The cavernous segment and the inferior division of the intraorbital segment were simultaneously involved, and the cisternal segment was often spared. Refraining from corticosteroids was recommended even with nerve enhancement.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

Neuroendocrine Modulation of Cognitive Performance in the Patients with Fibromyalgia
Conclusions: The FM patients showed significant cognitive impairment in several domains. The altered levels of cortisol, thyrotrophin-releasing hormone (TRH), and GnRH may mediate cognitive changes in FM.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

Cruveilhier ’s Unrecognized Case (c1831) of Dyke-Davidoff-Masson Syndrome
In his serially published atlas of pathology,Anatomie Pathologique du Corps Humain (1829 –1842), French anatomist and pathologist Jean Cruveilhier (1791–1874) provided an early clinical-pathologic description of Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome. Cruveilhier’s case was initially published around 1830, more than a century before the clinical and radiologic report of Dyke and colleagues in 1933 based on a series of patients studied with pneumoencephalography. Although Dyke and colleagues were apparently unaware of Cruveilhier’s prior description, Cruveilhier’s case manifested all of the key osseous and neuropathologica...

The Emerging Role of Circular RNAs in Cerebral Vascular Disorders
Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are covalently closed circular noncoding RNAs that are expressed in various life forms. CircRNAs have many characteristics, such as structural stability and tissue-specific expression that contribute to their role as a microRNA (sponge in gene regulation.Summary: Recent evidence suggests that circRNAs play an important role in the pathogenesis of cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs); however, the exact mechanism remains controversial. CircRNAs that are related to CVDs have great clinical significance.Key Messages: The present review provides an overview of the general biology of circRNAs, th...

Diagnosis and Treatment of Sciatica in the Netherlands: A Survey among Neurologists and Anesthesiologists
Conclusions: Neurologists treat sciatica patients initially with pain medication and physiotherapy, followed by epidural steroid injections and referral for surgery. Anesthesiologists treat sciatica patients with one or more steroid injections or may perform a selective nerve root block. Imaging, selective nerve root blocks, medication, physiotherapy, and pulse radiofrequency are topics of further research.Eur Neurol (Source: European Neurology)

The Peculiar Clinical Symptoms and Treatment of Limbic Encephalitis Associated with AMPA Receptor Antibody
Alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (AMPAR) antibody-related diseases are very rare in autoimmune neurological diseases. We collected and analyzed the data of 3 patients with peculiar clinical manifestation positive for AMPA2-R antibody in the Department of Neurology, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University. In our reported case series, 2 patients were male and 1 was female. The initial clinical features of 3 patients were all consistent with an encephalopathy predominantly involving the limbic system. Interestingly, as the disease continues to advance, case 1 presented with limb paralysis...
