Aortic endarterectomy in patients with severe multivessel paravisceral and aortoiliac occlusive disease
Objective Aortic endarterectomy (AE), once a treatment of choice for aortoiliac occlusive disease, is now rarely performed in favor of endovascular procedures or open aortobifemoral bypass. However, in select patients with paravisceral or aortoiliac occlusive disease, AE remains a viable alternative for revascularization, either as a primary procedure or after prior interventions have failed. Here, we evaluated outcomes for an extended series of patients undergoing paravisceral or aortoiliac endarterectomy, demonstrating that these procedures can be an excellent alternative with acceptable morbidity and mortality in proper...

Socioeconomic factors predict successful supervised exercise therapy completion
Objective Supervised exercise therapy (SET) for patients with intermittent claudication (IC) can lower the risk of progression to chronic limb-threatening ischemia and amputation, while preserving and restoring functional status. Despite supporting evidence, it remains underutilized, and among those who initiate programs, attrition rates are extremely high. We hypothesize that socioeconomic factors may represent significant barriers to SET completion. (Source: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Characterization of long-term survival in Medicare patients undergoing arteriovenous hemodialysis access
Background Patients undergoing arteriovenous (AV) access creation for hemodialysis often have significant comorbidities. Our goal was to quantify the long-term survival and associated risks factors for long-term mortality in these patients to aid in optimization of goals and expectations. Validation of the OAC3-PAD Bleeding Risk Score in Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease after Endovascular Treatment
Patients with symptomatic peripheral arterial disease (PAD)  receive antithrombotic medication to reduce their risk of major adverse cardiovascular and limb events.1 Antithrombotic medication and comorbidities, however, substantially increase the risk of bleeding in patients with PAD.1 The OAC3-PAD bleeding risk score has been developed to predict the bleed ing risk in patients with PAD by stratifying patients into four risk groups.2 This risk score was validated retrospectively in the subset of patients with PAD aged 40 years or older after endovascular treatment. Systematic Review Examining the Association of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor and Angiotensin Receptor Blocker Prescription with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Growth and Events
Whether angiotensin II blockade is an effective medical treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) has not been established. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the association of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi) and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) prescription with AAA growth and events. Unplanned Stenting for Treatment of Distal Endpoint Issues During Carotid Endarterectomy ☆
High distal internal carotid artery (ICA) exposure extending past the C2 vertebra during carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is challenging and is associated with an increased risk of cranial nerve injury, even in experienced hands.1 Meticulous pre-operative planning should pre-empt the need for extensive unplanned distal exposure to remove a bulky atherosclerotic plaque during CEA. There are, however, rare instances in which either a distal clamp injury or a friable, tattered endpoint not amenable to tacking sutures is encountered in a region of the distal ICA beyond what can safely be accessed by open surgical manoeuvres to ext...
