Anatomic feasibility of a modular Endo-Bentall stent graft system for type A aortic dissection
Objective: The implementation of thoracic endovascular aortic repair in patients with type A aortic dissection has been strictly constrained due to the pulsatile movement and distensibility and the insufficient length of landing zones on ascending aorta. The most prevalent anatomical limitation is the insufficient length of proximal and distal landing zones. We propose a modularly designed Endo-Bentall stent graft system to broaden the scope of thoracic endovascular aortic repair in the ascending aorta by covering intimal tears in the aortic root and ascending aorta and reconstructing coronary arteries. Predicting outcomes following open revascularization for aortoiliac occlusive disease using machine learning
Objective: Open surgical treatment options for aortoiliac occlusive disease carry significant perioperative risks; however, outcome prediction tools remain limited. Using machine learning (ML), we developed automated algorithms that predict 30-day outcomes following open aortoiliac revascularization. Impact of guideline-directed medical therapy on 5-year mortality in patients with newly diagnosed peripheral artery disease
Objective: Current guidelines recommend that patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) should be treated with antithrombotic agents, renin-angiotensin-system blockers, and statins. However, the clinical impact of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) on long-term mortality in patients with newly diagnosed PAD remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of GDMT and evaluate 5-year mortality according to GDMT after PAD diagnosis. (Source: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Investigation of center-specific saphenous vein utilization rates in femoral popliteal artery bypass and associated impact of conduit on outcomes
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate variation in great saphenous vein (GSV) use among the various centers participating in the Vascular Quality Initiative infrainguinal bypass modules. Further, differences in outcomes in femoral-popliteal artery bypass with single segment GSV conduit vs prosthetic conduit will be documented. Center GSV use rate impact on outcomes will be investigated. (Source: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Long-term outcome after implementation of endovascular-first strategy to treat acute mesenteric ischemia
Objective: To evaluate the rationale of an aggressive endovascular-first strategy to treat elderly patients with acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) by studying long-term survival, readmissions, and patients ’ discharge to home vs nursing facility a decade after an episode of AMI. How did we select the candidates, who were they, and who are the winners?
During the 2023 annual conference of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) in Belfast, UK we laureated the Best Papers published in our journal EJVES during 2022. This was a novel event and we thought it would be appropriate to explain how the process of identifying the candidates took place, and how the winning papers were selected. Acknowledgement of Reviewers in 2023
The quality of any scientific journal relies on a high caliber peer-review process. Reviewers invest their time altruistically to help authors improve their manuscripts. They are selected based on their expertise, and each review received by the Editors of the EJVES is scored according to its quality from 1-100 points. We monitor all reviewers ’ performance and each January the Editorial Board (EB) is renewed based on strict criteria. Those who perform a sufficient number of reviews, and have a mean score above 70, become candidates to be invited to the renewed EB. (Source: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)

Development, Feasibility, and Knowledge Impact of a Massive Open Online Course on Radiation Safety: A Multicentric Prospective Cohort Study
This study reports the development of an innovative, interactive Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) teaching radiation safety principles in the vascular workplace, using stepwise e-learning with multiple choice question tests (MCQs), educational videos, and a serious game. The aim was to study the MOOC impact on radiation safety knowledge and assess its feasibility and acceptability. (Source: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery)
