The influence of breast cancer subtypes on axillary ultrasound accuracy: A retrospective single center analysis of 583 women
ConclusionSolely regarding sensitivity of AUS, our study could show significant differences between biological subtypes of breast cancer with lower sensitivity in Luminal patients. While PPV was excellent, standing for a low overtreatment rate using AUS for clinical decision making, sensitivity was poor overall, comparable to the results of other studies. “Time dependent dynamics of wound complications after preoperative radiotherapy in Extremity Soft Tissue Sarcomas”
ConclusionApproximately one-third of patients selected for preoperative RT develops a WC, typically in smoking, adipose patients with superficial tumor localizations in the lower extremity. Based upon the well-established superior long-term functional outcome, maintained excellent local control rates and the temporary nature of the WC issue, preoperative RT remains our preferred treatment. Although, in patients at high risk of WC, post-operative RT might be considered. (Source: European Journal of Surgical Oncology (EJSO))

Mapping of the functional anatomy of lymphatic drainage to the axilla in early breast cancer: A cohort study of 933 cases
DiscussionA SLN is more than likely to be present in the anterior, posterior and central axillary subregions. Tangential fields allow only limited coverage of the axillary volumes. Preserving the lateral subregion during ARM may increase the possibility of understaging. (Source: European Journal of Surgical Oncology (EJSO))

Comprehensive multidisciplinary care program for elderly colorectal cancer patients: “From prehabilitation to independence”
In this study we compared all patients that underwent elective surgery for stage I-III colorectal cancer before and during development and after implementation of the program (2010–2011, 2012–2013 and 2014–2015). Primary endpoint was 1-year overall mortality, the secondary endpoint was 30-day postoperative outcome.ResultsEighty-six consecutive patients were included in the study cohort and compared to 63 patients from 2010 to 2011 and 75 patients from 2012 to 2013. Patient characteristics were comparable; median age in the study cohort was 80.6. Seventy-three patients (85%) participated in the program, 54...

Preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio as a prognosticator in early stage pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
ConclusionsAn elevated preoperative NLR was an important prognosticator for early TNM stage PDAC. The NLR, which is calculated using inexpensive and readily available biomarkers, could be a novel tool for predicting long-term survival in patients, especially those with early stage PDAC.
