ConclusionIn this cadaveric study, tarsal tunnel pressure increase after lateralizing calcaneal osteotomy was significantly lower when using a burr versus a saw. This is likely because the increased width ( “kerf”) of the 3 mm MIS burr, compared to the submillimeter saw blade width, causes calcaneal shortening. Given the smaller increase in tarsal tunnel pressure, using the MIS burr for lateralizing calcaneal osteotomy may decrease the risk of postoperative tarsal tunnel syndrome. ConclusionsWhile orthopedic traumatologists believe nutrition is an important determinant of patient outcomes, this study shows a clear lack of consensus and variability in practice regarding nutrition among surgeons. Do the humeral radiographic changes at 5-year follow-up affect the clinical outcomes of press-fit humeral stems in primary reverse shoulder arthroplasties?
ConclusionsOur study shows that the good functional results are similar between the two uncemented RTSA systems used and that they do not depend on the presence of radiological changes (stress-shielding) in the humeral stem at a minimum 5-year follow-up. Metatarsal lengthening by distraction osteogenesis for brachymetatarsia in paediatric patients: is it safe and effective?
ConclusionGradual metatarsal lengthening using the MiniRail external fixator is a safe and effective method to treat brachymetatarsia in paediatric patients. This preliminary report describes and supports metatarsal lengthening in appropriate patients. Holistic care in terms of a pre-operative assessment, psychological support and preparation for the extended rehabilitation period are vital. Cemented is not superior to cementless total knee arthroplasty for complications: a propensity score matched analysis
ConclusionsThis study found a comparable risk of PJI and aseptic loosening in cementless and cemented TKA when controlling for several comorbidities, such as tobacco, diabetes, and alcohol. Therefore, with proper patient selection, cementless TKAs can be performed with expectation of low risks of infections and aseptic loosenings. Long-term results of a modified Spitzy shelf operation for hip dysplasia: 79 adults with a mean follow-up of 33 years
ConclusionsThe modified Spitzy shelf operation had a good effect on hip pain. The long-term survival with conversion to THR as the endpoint in hips without preoperative OA was similar to that reported after periacetabular osteotomy. This indicates that the shelf procedure may be a suitable option in adolescents and young adults with milder degrees of hip dysplasia without OA. A pilot study on the “ScoliBrace” in the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
ConclusionResults show similar findings to the BRAIST study, whereby curves remained under surgical threshold and showed improvement. More than half had curve reduction of ≥ 5° at skeletal maturity. Increased dose was also associated with improved outcomes. Using “ScoliBrace” as a non-surgical treatment, maintained curves below surgical threshold and showed curve reduction, improving patient satisfaction with management. Acute versus staged fixation of bicondylar tibial plateau fractures: a dual centre international study

Optimising the Orthopaedic Trauma Society Open Fracture Classification system: a proposal for modification in the context of high civilian gunshot fractures
ConclusionWe conclude that the OTS Open Fracture Classification System is not inclusive of all open tibia and femur fractures as it does not cater for gunshot fractures. We propose a modification as follows: alter ‘wound debridement’ to ‘appropriate wound care’ and to subcategorise ‘Simple’ into type A and B: healing via secondary intention and primary closure, respectively.
