Percutaneous sacral screw fixation alone sufficient for mildly displaced U-type sacral fractures with preserved osseous fixation pathways
ConclusionIf osseous fixation pathways are present, U-type sacral fractures can be successfully treated with percutaneous sacral screws. LPF may be indicated in more displaced fractures with loss of spinopelvic alignment. Both techniques for U-type sacral fractures result in reliable fixation and healing without reoperations. Improving outcomes in traumatic peripheral nerve injuries to the upper extremity
AbstractPeripheral nerve lesions of the upper extremity are common and are associated with devastating limitations for the patient. Rapid and accurate diagnosis of the lesion by electroneurography, neurosonography, or even MR neurography is important for treatment planning. There are different therapeutic approaches, which may show individual differences depending on the injured nerve. If a primary nerve repair is not possible, several strategies exist to bridge the gap. These may include autologous nerve grafts, bioartificial nerve conduits, or acellular nerve allografts. Tendon and nerve transfers are also of major impor...

Adjuvant intra-articular vancomycin for recalcitrant Staphylococcal prosthetic joint infections of the knee
ConclusionThe aggressive protocol used in this cohort with repeat two-stage revision surgery, intra-articular vancomycin and systemic antibiotics was able to prevent recurrence of infection in most patients, but higher than expected rates of acute kidney injury were observed in this study. Therefore, while intra-articular vancomycin therapy may have some effectiveness in treating recalcitrant prosthetic joint infections, its ability to eradicate all bacterial niduses is unproven, and clinicians should be cognizant of potential adverse events that can occur with this therapy. Comparison of single versus double coracoclavicular loop stabilization technique for the management of unstable distal clavicular fractures: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsBoth single and double CC loop stabilization demonstrated favorable outcomes, including a high union rate and minimal complications. Single CC loop stabilization showed slightly better early functional outcomes, reduced implant-related irritation, and shorter operative times. The impact of sustentaculum tali fracture on clinical outcome in patients affected by isolated calcaneal fractures
ConclusionSanders type 3 and 4 fractures were more frequently associated with sustentaculum tali and/or calcaneocuboid joint involvement than simpler fractures. Injury of sustentaculum tali was related to significant worse postoperative clinical outcomes, underlying the relevance of this fragment on clinical course. Superior outcomes of total hip arthroplasty without prior lumbar arthrodesis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThis systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrated a statistically significant superiority in all analyzed outcomes for patients who underwent THA-only without prior LA. Specifically, patients with isolated THA implants experienced significantly lower incidences of THA dislocation, wound complications, periprosthetic joint infection, revision, and mechanical complications.Level of evidenceLevel IV. Safety of early weightbearing after ankle fracture fixation
ConclusionNo increase in complication rate was identified by commencing weightbearing early at two weeks after ankle fixation compared to six weeks. We therefore suggest EWB if appropriate, given its associated benefits including restoration of patient independence and improved quality of life.Level of evidenceTherapeutic, Level IV. Outcomes of distal biceps repair at two-year follow-up
ConclusionShort-term outcomes from distal biceps tendon repair show low complication rates, high patient satisfaction and good functional outcomes.
