Thyroid and adrenal incidentalomas on chest CT: Prevalence, diagnostic work-up and outcomes in a cohort of COVID-19 suspected patients
CONCLUSION: Prevalence rates of thyroid and adrenal incidentalomas on chest CT in a less selected COVID-19 cohort were 4.8% and 6.7%, respectively. Yet, as all incidentalomas turned out to be benign and only three lesions were (mildly) hormonally active, this raises the question whether intensive diagnostic work-up of incidentalomas is necessary in all patients.PMID:38123419 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.12.008 (Source: European Journal of Internal Medicine)

Adherence to an integrated care pathway for stroke is associated with lower risk of major cardiovascular events: A report from the Athens Stroke Registry
CONCLUSION: Full adherence to the ABCstroke pathway based on the current guidelines was evident in only 6.2 % of our ischaemic stroke cohort but was independently associated with lower risks of stroke recurrence, major cardiovascular events and mortality. This highlights a potential opportunity to improve clinical outcomes post-stroke with a holistic or integrated care management approach.PMID:38103953 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.12.010 (Source: European Journal of Internal Medicine)

Kidney function and other associated factors of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults: The SCOPE study
CONCLUSIONS: In community-dwelling older adults, sarcopenia is a relevant condition and is associated with severe CKD, older age, IADL, cognitive impairments, osteoporosis and low BMI. These factors should be assessed for proper identification and management of older patients with sarcopenia, and even more so with severe sarcopenia.PMID:38103954 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.12.002 (Source: European Journal of Internal Medicine)
