PlGF and sFlt ‐1 Levels in Patients with Non‐Transfusion‐Dependent Thalassemia: Correlations with Markers of Iron Burden and Endothelial Dysfunction
ConclusionsIn this study, we demonstrated an association between increased PlGF and iron overload and the degree of tissue hypoxia in patients with NTDT. High vWF:antigen expressing endothelial damage may be associated with specific NTDT comorbidities. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Hepcidin regulation in a mouse model of acute hypoxia
ConclusionSpleen and liver are not involved in the early stages of hypoxia‐induced hepcidin down‐regulation. Our data support the role of PDGF‐BB and probably also of erythroferrone in the recruitment of iron for erythropoiesis in the hypoxia setting. The rapid normalization of all the erythroid factors against persistent hepcidin suppression suggests that other signals are involved that should be clarified in future studies. This article is protected by copyright. Safety of direct oral anticoagulants vs warfarin in patients with chronic liver disease and atrial fibrillation
ConclusionNo significant differences in bleeding rates were noted in patients treated with warfarin and DOAC agents. Further studies evaluating DOAC agents are needed to better understand the optimal anticoagulation strategy in setting of CLD. (Source: European Journal of Haematology)

Clinicopathological characteristics of de novo and secondary myeloid sarcoma: a monocentric retrospective study
ConclusionDe novo myeloid sarcoma mostly presented isolated. Lesions were often localized at skin and lymph nodes. Genetic aberrations frequently involved core‐binding factor rearrangements in de novo cases and a complex karyotype in secondary cases. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Low response rate to ATG ‐based immunosuppressive therapy in very severe aplastic anaemia – a Swedish nationwide cohort study
ConclusionsReal‐world VSAA patients respond poorly to ATG which indicates the need for a different treatment approach. Our findings suggest that age alone should not be a discriminating factor for administering ATG treatment. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Pretreatment with standard ‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone does not improve outcomes in newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)
ConclusionsInitiating methylprednisolone at a conventional dose provided no significant benefit compared to giving oral prednisone only to adults with ITP. (Source: European Journal of Haematology)
