Patient ‐reported symptoms and stepwise symptom management in patients on epidermal growth factor inhibitors: A retrospective, descriptive cohort study
Adverse events (AEs) of epidermal growth factor inhibitors (EGFRi) influence well‐being with a risk to dose modifications (DMs). Hereby, clinical benefit of treatment might be affected. This retrospective cohort study was set up to gain insight into the suitability and added value of a patient‐reported outcome measurement tool (PROM), together with a stepwise intervention management plan for EGFRi‐related AEs in daily practice. The primary objective was to gain insight into total treatment duration and DMs, and the secondary objective to gain insight into patient‐reported symptoms and well‐being as well as health...

Developmental considerations of young people with cancer transitioning to adulthood
The literature concerning the impact of having cancer during adolescence and emerging adulthood has been widely discussed in relation to the unique nature of psychosocial challenges. The current study presents these findings within the context of developmental literature to further our understanding on how their developmental transitioning can be affected by having cancer. Specifically, two developmental milestones considered to be the pre‐requisites for acquiring an adult status were focused on: forming identity and establishing independence. Several traditions of developmental literature were incorporated, including th...

Oncologists ’ identification of mental health distress in cancer patients: Strategies and barriers
The purpose of this research was to examine oncologists’ perspectives on indicators of mental health distress in patients: what strategies they use to identify these indicators, and what barriers they face in this task. Twenty‐three oncologists were interviewed, and the grounded theory method of data collection and analysis was used. Oncologists perceived distress to be a normative part of having cancer and looked for affective, physical, verbal and behavioural indicators using a number of strategies. Barriers to identification of mental health distress included difficulty in differentiating between mental health distr...

The role of social context in symptom appraisal and help ‐seeking among people with lung or colorectal symptoms: A qualitative interview study
This study sought to understand how the broader context of people's lives influenced symptom appraisal and help‐seeking, comparing experiences by length of the patient interval. Patients referred with a suspicion of lung or colorectal cancer were invited to complete a questionnaire about their symptoms, with 26 respondents purposively sampled to take part in a semi‐structured interview about their patient intervals. Embodied experience, appraisal, help‐seeking decision‐making and consultation were identified as component stages of the patient interval, with the factors affecting movement between these stages locate...

Prophylactic effect of lamivudine on chemotherapy ‐induced hepatitis B virus reactivation in patients with solid tumour: A meta‐analysis
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation is a remarkable risk during the chemotherapy for solid tumour patients. Nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) are recommended as prophylaxis for the reactivation of HBV infection in some cancer patients prior to systemic chemotherapy. Therefore, we performed a meta‐analysis aiming to determine the efficacy of prophylactic lamivudine on prevention of HBV reactivation and its related negative outcomes among solid tumour patients with chronic HBV infection receiving systemic chemotherapy. The primary outcome was HBV reactivation, and the secondary outcomes were HBV‐related hepatitis, chemother...
