Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and monocyte-to-eosinophil ratio as prognostic indicators for advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma
ConclusionsThe NLR, NER and MER can be used to predict survival in advanced NPC patients. Eosinophils might be one of the factors for the good prognosis of NPC patients. In addition, an increased number of neutrophils after treatment may indicate a favorable prognosis. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Impact of Wendler glottoplasty on acoustic measures and quality of voice in transgender women: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsWG is an effective voice feminization method in transgender women, associated with a high procedural success and low risk of postoperative complications. Significantly improved TWVQ score after surgery suggests its positive impact on the voice-related quality of life. Postoperative decrease of maximum phonation time and frequency range does not seem to significantly impact the effectiveness of voice production. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

The relationship between posttonsillectomy bleeding to hemogram and coagulation parameters
ConclusionsAge, high WBC and neutrophil levels were determined as possible risk factors for PTB. Seasonal and gender distribution, aPTT and INR values were similar in the two groups. In order to prevent and predict bleeding, detailed infection investigation should be performed and the risk of bleeding should be considered to increase with increasing age. Assessment of quality of life in thyroid cancer patients using the EORTC thyroid-specific questionnaire: a prospective cross-sectional study
ConclusionsThere was no difference in the QoL scores based on various categories. To better understand the quality of life of these patients a prospective longitudinal study with baseline values and values at regular intervals might give us a better insight. Aortic rupture following acute aortitis in a patient with head and neck carcinoma treated with nivolumab: a rare but severe immune-related adverse event
ConclusionAlthough severe irAE, such as acute aortitis, occurred, the patient may still achieve a durable response. A broad examination and prompt treatment of irAE can help improve the patient ’s survival. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Role of prior intratympanic gentamicin and corticosteroids therapy on speech understanding in patients with Meni ère's disease after cochlear implantation
ConclusionMD and non-MD patients showed comparable hearing results after CI. Prior ITC might positively influence hearing preservation after CI in MD patients whereas ITG group showed fluctuating hearing. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Serum levels of heavy metals in patients with Bell ’s palsy: a case–control study
ConclusionOur findings suggest that decreased essential and increased nonessential elements may be associated with BP and thus, serum concentrations of these elements should be taken into account in BP. Studies are warranted to determine the role of these elements in treatment of BP. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Analysis of the cause of retrolingual obstruction in patients with moderate –severe obstructive sleep apnea
ConclusionThe percentage of patients with retrolingual obstruction in all moderate –severe OSA patients is relatively high, mainly glossoptosis, palatal tonsil hypertrophy, and lingual hypertrophy. FTP classification and RCSA can only reflect the retrolingual anatomical stenosis, but cannot fully reflect the retrolingual functional stenosis, especially the presence of glossoptos is. Changes in occurrence and management of laryngeal fractures at the Helsinki University Hospital during 25  years
ConclusionsDeliberate and violence-related laryngeal fractures have increased. These often result in more extensive injuries predisposing to compromised airway and requiring surgical intervention and longer treatment. Most fractures are still treated conservatively with good long-term outcomes. An observation period of 24  h is recommended to detect any delayed complications. Mortality remains low. Reconstructive ossiculoplasty options in primary cholesteatoma surgeries with an intact stapes
ConclusionA residual postoperative air –bone gap should be considered after primary cholesteatoma surgery with intact and mobile stapes. Incus interposition in closed cavity operation is the optimal situation, but open cavity surgery should not be avoided because of hearing. Extent of the disease is prioritized and poorer ventilation b efore and after surgery may affect postoperative hearing. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)
