Postradiation trismus in head and neck cancer survivors: a qualitative study of effects on life, rehabilitation, used coping strategies and support from the healthcare system
ConclusionThe results highlight areas of unmet need among HNC survivors that healthcare providers can target by establishing multi-professional teams dedicated to individualizing post-cancer rehabilitation care. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

The extent of androgen receptor and HER2 expression allows for targeted therapy in most cases of salivary duct carcinoma: analysis of clinical and histopathological data in a tertiary care center
ConclusionsThe results suggest a rising SDC incidence and show that the extent of the AR and HER2 expression allows for targeted therapy in most SDC cases. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Characteristics of higher depressive tendency in the patients with olfactory disorder
ConclusionIn our study, approximately half of the patients with olfactory dysfunction had depressive tendencies especially in female and parosmia/phantosmia patients. We believe that psychological assessments, such as that with the SDS, can help identify patients with olfactory dysfunction who may be at a greater risk of developing depression. Diagnostic and prognostic nomograms for laryngeal carcinoma patients with lung metastasis: a SEER-based study
ConclusionDistant metastasis (bone, brain, or liver) and N stage should be considered for prediction of LM in LC patients. Chemotherapy is the most significant influencing prognostic factor improving the survival of LC patients with LM. Two nomograms may benefit for providing better precautionary measures and treatment decision. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Cochlear implantation in patients with Charcot –Marie–Tooth disease: two cases with a review of the literature
ConclusionsCI is an effective hearing rehabilitation option for CMT patients with severe-to-profound SNHL. Neuro-otologists should consider CI as a treatment option, even though hearing loss in CMT is associated with auditory neuropathy spectrum disease (ANSD). Comparative analysis of videofluoroscopy and pulse oximetry for aspiration identification in patients with dysphagia after stroke and non-dysphagics
ConclusionsA decrease in SPO2 may indicate potential aspiration but is insufficient alone for detection. This study proposes pulse oximetry as a valuable complementary tool in assessing dysphagia but emphasizes that aspiration cannot be reliably predicted based solely on SpO2 decrease. Diagnostic accuracy of intrathecal fluorescein versus other radiological modalities in evaluating non-congenital skull base defects: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionITF is considered as an efficient tool in localizing skull base defects. However, there was no significant results when comparing the ITF to other alternative radiological tests. Accordingly, if the ITF intervention is indicated, patients should be carefully selected based on their clinical need. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

Comparison of classical, coblation, and combined adenoidectomy techniques in paediatric patients: a single-blind, prospective study
ConclusionsThe combined approach, which was one of the techniques studied, demonstrated an intermediate profile in terms of operative time and intra-operative bleeding compared to the classical and coblation techniques. These findings suggest that this combined approach may be a feasible option for adenoidectomy in pediatric patients, considering its similar low incidence of postoperative complications. Airway collapse hinders recovery in bronchoscopy therapy for postintubation tracheal stenosis patients
ConclusionThe presence of malacia or collapse in patients with PITS was associated with increased perioperative complications following bronchoscopic interventional therapy, and significantly reduced the long-term cure rate compared to patients with pure tracheal stenosis.Trial registrationChinese Clinical Trial Registry on 06/12/2021. DISE with CPAP: a useful procedure to evaluate upper airway collapsibility
ConclusionDISE-CPAP is a useful tool to select the treatment that better fits to each patient taking care all information available. It improves our ability to prescribe a multilevel treatment with an exhaustive topographic evaluation of upper airway collapsibility that complements CPAP classic titration, and it can be helpful to distinguish better candidates for surgery, myofunctional therapy or CPAP. Natural history of hearing and tumor growth in vestibular schwannoma in neurofibromatosis type 2-related schwannomatosis
ConclusionsAlthough the hearing preservation rate in NF2 cases is poor with the current treatment methods, many cases exist in which hearing acuity deteriorates, even during the natural course. Patients with an increased tumor volume during the follow-up period were more likely to experience hearing deterioration.Trial registration number 20140242 (date of registration: 27 October 2014).
