Negative MRI and a seizure onset zone close to eloquent areas in FCD type II: Application of MRg-LiTT after a SEEG re-evaluation in pediatric patients with a previous failed surgery
CONCLUSIONS: The combined use of SEEG and MRg-LiTT in complex cases can lead to good outcomes both as a rescue therapy after failed surgery, but also as an alternative to open surgery after a successful SEEG-guided Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation (RF-TC). Specific SEEG patterns and a previous good outcome from RF-TC can be predictors of a favourable outcome.PMID:38401416 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109694 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Testing the diagnostic accuracy of common questions for seizure diagnosis: Challenges and future directions
CONCLUSION: In this study, we examined the ability of common interview questions used by physicians to distinguish between epilepsy and prevalent epilepsy mimics, specifically NES, migraines, and syncope. Using a weighted scoring system for questions, and including age and sex, produced a sensitive and specific predictive model for the diagnosis of epilepsy. In contrast to many prior studies which evaluated either a large number of questions or used methods with difficult practical application, our study is unique in that we tested a small number of easy-to-understand "yes" or "no" questions that can be implemented in most...

Diagnostic utility of prolonged ambulatory video-electroencephalography monitoring
CONCLUSION: Ambulatory video-EEG recordings are of high diagnostic value in capturing clinically relevant events and resolving the referring clinical questions.PMID:38401413 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109652 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Clinical Validation of Selected NIH Cognitive Toolbox Tasks in Pediatric Epilepsy
This study supports the use of these tasks as brief, easily accessible screener tools to identify cognitive dysfunction in domains commonly impacted in patients with epilepsy and potential use for monitoring over time.PMID:38401414 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109684 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

First epileptic seizure and quality of life - A prospective study
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that QoL may be impaired in patients diagnosed with epilepsy early, immediately after the onset of disease. Early follow-up monitoring from the beginning of patient career is important for possible interventions and to improve patients' daily life in the long term.PMID:38401415 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109704 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Polygenic burden and its association with baseline cognitive function and postoperative cognitive outcome in temporal lobe epilepsy
Epilepsy Behav. 2024 Feb 22;153:109692. doi: 10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109692. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Demographic and disease factors are associated with cognitive deficits and postoperative cognitive declines in adults with pharmacoresistant temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), but the role of genetic factors in cognition in TLE is not well understood. Polygenic scores (PGS) for neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders and IQ have been associated with cognition in patient and healthy populations. In this exploratory study, we examined the relationship between PGS for Alzheimer's disease (AD), depression, and IQ a...

Epilepsy and driving: A preliminary survey of people with epilepsy at an epilepsy clinic in China
CONCLUSIONS: One-third of people with epilepsy hold the driving license and good drug compliance is a favorable factor for driving. Standardizing different levels of restriction on driving for people with epilepsy is urgently needed.PMID:38394791 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109668 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Illness representations of people with later-onset functional seizures
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to assess the illness representations of people with later-onset functional seizures. Many themes were similar to those identified in samples including people with earlier-onset functional seizures. Health-related trauma or events were the most strongly endorsed perceived causal factor, but with the exception of 'consequences', all representations were characterised by uncertainty. Clinicians should hold in mind the interaction between life stage and the consequences of later-onset functional seizures.PMID:38382188 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109666 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Seizure control and complications in patients switching from clobazam to clonazepam due to drug shortage
CONCLUSION: The abrupt switch from CLB to CLZ was observed to increase seizure frequency without leading to status epilepticus in PWE. CLZ-associated side effects were found to be tolerable despite the abrupt switch. Future studies may explore the effect of alternative switching ratios.PMID:38382407 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109690 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)
