Bidirectional relationship between late-onset epilepsy (LOE) and dementia: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
CONCLUSION: The findings suggested that LOE is a potential risk factor for dementia and AD, and vice versa, dementia and AD are both potential risk indicators for LOE. Since there is substantial heterogeneity among the cohorts analyzed and more cohort studies should be conducted to confirm the correlations found in the current study.PMID:38490119 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109723 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Longitudinal point-of-care assessment of psychomotor vigilance in children in the epilepsy monitoring unit
Epilepsy Behav. 2024 Mar 7;153:109725. doi: 10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109725. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) is a complex and dynamic operational environment, where the cognitive and behavioural consequences of medical and environmental changes often go unnoticed. The psychomotor vigilance task (PVT) has been used to detect changes in cognition and behaviour in numerous contexts, including among astronauts on spaceflight missions, pilots, and commercial drivers. Here, we piloted serial point-of-care administration of the PVT in children undergoing invasive monitoring in the EMU. Seven children ...

Public misconceptions and attitudes towards persons diagnosed with epilepsy in the Kingdom of Bahrain: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The studied sample of the Bahraini public demonstrated a satisfactory level of knowledge about epilepsy. However, they still held certain misconceptions that could impact their attitudes towards PdwE. Community awareness campaigns can address this knowledge gap and reduce epilepsy stigma.PMID:38452516 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109731 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Neuropsychological Rehabilitation for Epilepsy in India: Looking Beyond the Basics
CONCLUSION: NR shows promise for patients with DRE, however larger studies are warranted. The role of cognition in epilepsy needs to be introduced at the time of diagnosis to help lay the foundation for education and acceptance.PMID:38452517 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109703 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)
