Regression Discontinuity Designs in Health: A Systematic Review
Conclusions: This systematic review demonstrates that regression discontinuity designs have been widely applied in health research and could be used more widely still. Shortcomings in study quality and reporting suggest that the potential benefits of this method have not yet been fully realized. (Source: Epidemiology)

Effectiveness of Containment Measures Against COVID-19 in Singapore: Implications for Other National Containment Efforts
Conclusions: We estimate that robust surveillance, active case detection, prompt contact tracing, and quarantine of close contacts kept JOURNAL/epide/04.03/00001648-202101000-00011/inline-graphic4/v/2020-11-30T170213Z/r/image-tiff below one. (Source: Epidemiology)

Time Since Infection and Risks of Future Disease for Individuals with Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infection in the United States
Conclusions: Our analysis suggests that, although newly infected individuals face appreciable lifetime TB risks, most US individuals with latent TB infection were infected long ago, and face low future risks of developing TB. Better approaches are needed for identifying recently infected individuals and those with elevated progression risks. (Source: Epidemiology)

Predicting the Future Course of Opioid Overdose Mortality: An Example From Two US States
Conclusion: Growth in annual rates of opioid fatalities was capacity limited, heterogeneous across counties, and spatially correlated, requiring spatial epidemic models for the accurate and reliable prediction of future outcomes related to opioid abuse. Indicators of risk are identifiable and can be used to predict future mortality outcomes. (Source: Epidemiology)

Quantifying Lifecourse Drivers of International Migration: A Cross-national Analysis of Mexico and the United States
Conclusions: Although time-varying social factors predicted migration, IPTW weighting did not affect our estimates. Larger samples are needed to precisely estimate the health effects of migration. (Source: Epidemiology)

Firearm Homicide Incidence, Within-state Firearm Laws, and Interstate Firearm Laws in US Counties
Conclusions: Additional firearm laws are associated with fewer firearm homicides both within the states where the laws are enacted and elsewhere in the United States. Interference from interstate firearm laws may bias associations for studies of within-state laws and firearm homicide. (Source: Epidemiology)

The Use of Time to Pregnancy for Estimating and Monitoring Human Fecundity From Demographic and Health Surveys
Conclusions: Using cohabitation as a proxy for the initiation of attempts to get pregnant is too crude. Using the current duration approach with DHS data will require more explicit questions during the DHS interviews about initiation of pregnancy attempt. (Source: Epidemiology)

Maternal Experience of Multiple Hardships and Fetal Growth: Extending Environmental Mixtures Methodology to Social Exposures
Conclusions: Our results are consistent with the hypothesis that experiencing food insecurity during pregnancy, alone and in combination with stressful life events and unplanned pregnancy, may affect fetal growth. (Source: Epidemiology)

Should Fetal Growth Charts Be References or Standards?
Conclusions: In our study, there was little practical difference between a fetal growth reference and standard for detecting small infants. (Source: Epidemiology)

Nationwide Study of Short-term Exposure to Fine Particulate Matter and Cardiovascular Hospitalizations Among Medicaid Enrollees
Conclusion: We found robust evidence of an association between short-term PM2.5 and CVD hospitalizations among the vulnerable subpopulation of adult Medicaid enrollees. Importantly, this association persisted even at PM2.5 levels below the current national standards. (Source: Epidemiology)
