Meta-analysis of Total Effect Decomposition in the Presence of Multiple Mediators: The Example of Schizophrenia Treatment
Conclusions: Meta-analyzing causal mediation analysis combines evidence from multiple sources and improves power. Targeting positive symptoms may be an effective way to reduce negative symptoms that are challenging to treat. Future work should focus on extending the existing methods to allow for more flexible modeling of mediation. (Source: Epidemiology)

Do-search: A Tool for Causal Inference and Study Design with Multiple Data Sources
Epidemiologic evidence is based on multiple data sources including clinical trials, cohort studies, surveys, registries, and expert opinions. Merging information from different sources opens up new possibilities for the estimation of causal effects. We show how causal effects can be identified and estimated by combining experiments and observations in real and realistic scenarios. As a new tool, we present do-search, a recently developed algorithmic approach that can determine the identifiability of a causal effect. The approach is based on do-calculus, and it can utilize data with nontrivial missing data and selection bia...

At-risk-measure Sampling in Case–Control Studies with Aggregated Data
We present a method called at-risk-measure sampling. Its goal is to estimate the denominator of an incidence rate ratio (exposed to unexposed measure of the at-risk experience) given an aggregated summary of the at-risk measure from a cohort. Rather than sampling individuals or locations, the method samples the measure of the at-risk experience. Specifically, the method as presented samples person–distance and person–events summarized by location. It is illustrated with data from a mobile app used to record bicycling. The method extends an established case–control sampling principle: sample the at-risk experience of ...

Single-arm Trials with Historical Controls: Study Designs to Avoid Time-related Biases
Conclusion: While single-arm trials with external historical controls are gaining recognition, a proper understanding of time-related sources of bias is essential if such trials will be used to provide valid evidence for drug approval from regulatory agencies. (Source: Epidemiology)
