Pollution load estimation and influencing factor analysis in the Tuhai River Basin in Shandong Province of China based on improved output coefficient method
This study utilized the improved output coefficient method to estimate the total pollution loads in the river basin while analyzing the influencing factors based on the STIRPAT (Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology) model. Findings indicated that the projected point source pollution loads for total phosphorus (TP), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and ammonia nitrogen (AN) would amount to 3937.22 ton, 335,523.25 ton, and 13,946.92 ton in 2021, respectively. Among these, COD pollution would pose the greatest concern. The primary contributors to the pollution loads were rural scattered life,...

Effects of tire-road wear particles on the adsorption of tetracycline by aquatic sediments
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33132-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTire-road wear particles (TRWPs) are formed by friction between the tire and the road. TRWPs are ubiquitous across the globe, especially in sediments. However, the possible effects of TRWPs on tetracycline (TC) in aquatic sediments are unknown. To investigate the potential role of TRWPs as carriers of co-pollutants, this study investigated the pore surface properties and TC adsorption behavior of TRWP-contaminated sediments and explored the TC behavior in water sediments, as well as the role of aging processes and TRWPs a...

New zeolite made from Tunisian raw clay: study and modeling for C < sub > 3 < /sub > H < sub > 6 < /sub > breakthrough dynamic adsorption onto zeolite material
In this study, Tunisian raw clay (RC) was utilized as a cheap source of silicium and aluminum for the preparation of faujasite zeolite (FAUsyn) using the alkaline fusion technique. The zeolite's structural analysis was carried out using the XRD, nitrogen adsorption-desorption, and SEM-EDX techniques. The data collected demonstrate that the produced zeolite only included one homogeneous faujasite phase. Textural analysis shows that the FAUsyn prepared from RC has a hierarchical porosity (micro-, meso-, and macropores). The total porosity was found to be 0.33 cm3/g as well as the BET area was equal to 360 m2/g. Adsorption ex...

Solar-powered single-stage distillation and complex conductivity analysis for sustainable domestic wastewater treatment
This study investigates the efficacy of a solar-powered single-stage distillation system for treating domestic wastewater, supplemented with complex conductivity analysis. Domestic wastewater samples were collected from a municipal manhole in El Jadida, Morocco, over a 24-h period. The single-stage distillation system, designed for domestic wastewater treatment, utilizes heat to vaporize the wastewater, followed by condensation to produce pure liquid water. The system demonstrated increased distilled water production with rising temperatures, with domestic wastewater outperforming seawater as a feed water source. Physical ...

Evaluation of water resources security in Anhui Province based on GA-BP model
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32937-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWater resources security is an important cornerstone of regional sustainable development, but the current evaluation system of water resources security is not scientific, and the measurement of safety level has not been optimized by combining algorithms. In this paper, indicators are selected according to the actual situation in Anhui Province. Firstly, correlation analysis (CA) and principal component analysis (PCA) are used to reduce the dimensionality of indicators, and then, the scientific evaluation is carried out ba...

Considering product life cycle characteristics and industry background in environmental impact analysis and application: a case study of a television
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32999-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLife cycle assessment (LCA) is widely used to evaluate product's life cycle environmental impact and identify the environmental weaknesses. However, it is difficult for existing LCA software to perform flexible LCA analysis based on the product life cycle characteristics and industry background. Meanwhile, under the existing LCA research model, product designers and manufacturers are usually not LCA evaluators, resulting in a certain time gap between the evaluation results and product improvement. Designers with less expe...

A review on the evaluation models and impact factors of greenhouse gas emissions from municipal solid waste management processes
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33042-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe total amount of global municipal solid waste (MSW) will reach 3.5 billion tons by 2050, thereby bringing tremendous environmental pressure, especially global warming. Large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHGs) have been released during MSW management (MSWM). Accounting for GHG emissions is a prerequisite for providing recommendations on appropriate treatment options to mitigate emissions from MSWM systems. There are many methods involved in estimating emissions. This paper summarizes the computing models commonly used i...

Investigation of the removal of diclofop methyl herbicide by peroxy electrocoagulation process and kinetic and cost analysis
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33163-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPesticides containing chlorine, which are released during agricultural activities, are chemical substances that mix with surface and underground waters and have toxic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic effects on the entire living ecosystem. Due to their chemically stable structure, conventional water and wastewater treatment techniques such as coagulation, flocculation, and biological oxidation do not entirely remove these chemical substances. Therefore, before releasing them into the environmental receptor, these chemical sub...

Characterization and removal mechanism of fluoroquinolone-bioremediation by fungus Cladosporium cladosporioides 11 isolated from aquacultural sediments
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33142-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntibiotics have been widely detected in aquatic environments, and fungal biotransformation receives considerable attention for antibiotic bioremediation. Here, a fungus designated Cladosporium cladosporioides 11 (CC11) with effective capacity to biotransform fluoroquinolones was isolated from aquaculture pond sediments. Enrofloxacin (ENR), ciprofloxacin (CIP) and ofloxacin (OFL) were considerably abated by CC11, and the antibacterial activities of the fluoroquinolones reduced significantly after CC11 treatment. Adsorption properties and mechanism of Cu(II) on virgin and aged microplastics in the aquatic environment
In this study, two kinds of materials, polyamide (PA) and polylactic acid (PLA) were used as target MPs, and the effects of UV irradiation on the physical and chemical properties of the MPs and the adsorption behavior of Cu(II) were investigated. The results showed that after UV irradiation, pits, folds and pores appeared on the surface of aged MPs, the specific surface area (SSA) increased, the content of oxygen-containing functional groups increased, and the crystallinity decreased. These changes enhanced the adsorption capacity of aged MPs for Cu(II) pollutants. The adsorption behavior of the PA and PLA MPs for Cu(II) c...
