Complications after abdominal surgery and breast implant pelvic positioning: case report and literature review
AbstractThe recommended treatment for patients with locally advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) or other pelvic neoplasms often comprises extensive abdominal surgery and radiation therapy (RT). The major complications of these treatments are radiation enteritis and empty pelvis syndrome, which is the displacement of bowel loops in the pelvic dead space created after the intervention. To avoid these complications, diverse methods of pelvic floor reconstruction have been attempted, one of them being the silicon breast prosthesis pelvic placement. Since literature is scarce on complications secondary to breast implant placement ...

Radiological management and challenges of the twin earthquakes of February 6th
AbstractTwo major earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Turkey and Northern Syria on February 6, claiming more than 50,000 lives. In such an unprecedented disaster, radiologists were confronted with very critical tasks of stepping out of the routine reporting process, performing radiological triage, managing acute adverse events, and optimizing imaging protocols. In our experience, radiologists can take three different positions in such disasters: (1) in the scene of the disaster, (2) serving in teleradiology, and (3) working in tertiary hospital for transported patients. With this article, we aimed...

A pictorial review of imaging findings associated with upper cervical trauma
AbstractThe diagnosis of cervical spine injury in the emergency department remains a critical skill of emergency room physicians as well as radiologists. Such diagnoses are often associated with high morbidity and mortality unless readily identified and treated appropriately. Both computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) often are crucial in the workup of spinal injury and play a key role in arriving at a diagnosis. Unfortunately, missed cervical spine injuries are not necessarily uncommon and often precede detrimental neurologic sequalae. With the increase in whole-body imaging ordered from the emerge...

Incidence of complications related to shoulder arthroplasties identified on computed tomography
ConclusionIn this single tertiary academic referral center cohort, the incidence of shoulder arthroplasty complication identified on CT was 64.9% and the most commonly occurring complication was loosening/aseptic osteolysis (36.9%). TSA had the highest incidence of complication (75.7%). (Source: Emergency Radiology)

Daytime, evening, and overnight: the 24-h radiology cycle and impact on interpretative accuracy
ConclusionSignificantly higher major discrepancy rates for studies interpreted overnight suggest the need for radiologists to exercise greater caution when interpreting studies overnight and may require practice management strategies to help optimize overnight work conditions. The lower major discrepancy rates on advanced studies interpreted during the daytime suggest the need for reserving advanced studies for interpretation during the day when possible. Predictive factors of selective transarterial embolization failure in acute renal bleeding: a single-center experience
ConclusionRTE is a safe and effective procedure in the management of acute renal bleeding of various origins. Hematoma volume, Scr, PLT, and eGFR values were found to be predictive factors of poor clinical outcome and should be closely monitored. (Source: Emergency Radiology)

Radiologist age and diagnostic errors
ConclusionsThe mean error rate for all radiologists was low. We observed that increasing age at any residency graduation date was associated with increasing relative risk of major and minor errors as well as increasing odds of a major vs. minor error among providers. Further study is needed to corroborate these results, determine clinical relevance, and highlight strategies to address these findings. (Source: Emergency Radiology)
