Synthesis, characterization, and in vitro evaluation of gamma radiation-induced PEGylated isoniazid
ConclusionsIn summary, the research suggests that it is possible to covalently attach the PEG onto INH by the proposed method and to obtain a slow-acting isoniazid derivative with little toxicity in vitro and higher anti-mycobacterial potency than the neat drug. Cloning and molecular characterization of a putative habanero pepper SERK1 cDNA expressed during somatic and zygotic embryogenesis
ConclusionDNA sequence alignments and gene expression patterns suggest that CchSERK1 is the C. chinense SERK1 homolog. Significant levels of CchSERK1 transcripts were found in tissues with cell differentiation activities like vascular axes and during the development of zygotic and somatic embryos. These results suggest that CchSERK1 might have regulatory functions in cell differentiation and could be used as a biotechnological tool to study the peppers recalcitrance to proliferate in vitro. Discovery and molecular analysis of conserved circRNAs from cashmere goat reveal their integrated regulatory network and potential roles in secondary hair follicle
ConclusionsA total of eighteen circular RNAs were identified and characterized from skin tissue of cashmere goat. The eight up-regulated circular RNAs at anagen might have significant roles in secondary hair follicle of cashmere goat. Our results would provide novel regulatory layer to elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of secondary hair follicle and the growth of cashmere fiber in cashmere goat. An efficient method of Yarrowia lipolytica immobilization using oil- and emulsion-modified bacterial cellulose carrier
ConclusionThe application of oil- or emulsion-modified BC as carriers significantly increased efficiency of Y. lipolytica immobilization as compared to unmodified BC. The addition of oil or emulsion to the culture medium can be a simple but effective method to modify the porosity of BC-based carriers. (Source: Electronic Journal of Biotechnology)

Le arning from transgenics: Advanced gene editing technologies should also bridge the gap with traditional genetic selection
Publication date: Available online 27 June 2019Source: Electronic Journal of BiotechnologyAuthor(s): Ariel D. Arencibia, Vívian D'Afonseca, Mohan Chakravarthi, Stefano CastiglioneAbstractWe highlight the importance of the mixed genetic approaches (classical and currents) to improve the social perception related to the GMOs acceptance. We pointed out that CRISPR/Cas9 events could carry DNA variability/rearrangements related to somaclonal variations or epigenetic changes that are independent from the editing per se. The transformation of single cells, followed by plant regeneration, is used to generate modified plants, tran...

Assessment of wasteland derived biomass for bioethanol production
ConclusionsThe plants such as fireweed, common broom, hay and goldenrod may be useful for the production of liquid biofuels and it would be necessary in the further stage of research to establish and optimize the conditions for the technology of ethyl alcohol producing from these plant species. Enzymatic hydrolysis of biomass from agricultural wastelands results in a large increase in fermentable sugars, comparable to the enzymatic hydrolysis of rye, wheat, rice or maize straw.
