Sputum –plasma ratio of soluble receptor for advanced glycation end-products in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Conclusions sRAGE level either in induced sputum, plasma or sputum plasma ratio is not significantly different between stable COPD patients, smokers and healthy controls. Thus, sRAGE cannot be considered as a marker of either diagnosis or severity of COPD. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Determinants of delay in tuberculosis diagnosis in Hamadan province, 2006 −2014
Conclusion A high proportion of patients had delays in diagnosis exceeding three months. Our findings suggest that male gender, new cases, positive and extra pulmonary cases might increase the risk for delayeddiagnosis among TB patients. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Predictive value of different scoring systems for critically ill patients with hospital acquired pneumonia
Conclusions SMART – cop score is the most sensitive score in predicting 28-day mortality in the studied patient followed by SMART – co and PSI score). SMART-cop score is the most specific one (Specificity=93%) in followed by Modified ATS score (Specificity=90%). (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Role of IOS in evaluation of patients with interstitial lung diseases
This study included 48 patients with interstitial lung diseases of different causes. Pulmonary function test by spirometry was done to measure FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC, MEF25-75 and pulmonary function test by impulse oscillometry (IOS). We measured R5, R20, X5, RF. Oxygen saturation and 6MWT. Results In our study 87% were females. The mean age in our study was 50.75±11.1. Mean X5 was low in ILD denoting restrictive pattern, and there was a negative correlation between X5andFEV1/FVC. There was a positive correlation between X5and6MWT. The mean R5 was 150.33±while mean R20 was 108.33±48.66 this is within normal then this is ...

Clinical presentations and outcome of severe community-acquired pneumonia
Conclusion SCAP occurs more frequently in those with comorbidities. The most frequent isolated causative organism of SCAP is S. pneumoniae, Influenza H1N1 and S. aureus. Tuberculous pleural effusion – relapse or re-infection? Follow up of a case report and review of the literature
Conclusion Abdominal TB should be suspected in patients with fever, abdominal pain and ascites. Sputum induction (in addition to pleural fluid) for acid-fast bacilli and culture is a recommended procedure in all patients with TB pleurisy. This condition carries good prognosis, if promptly diagnosed and treated. A reasonable management strategy for pleural TB would be to initiate a four-drug regimen and perform a therapeutic thoracocentesis in patients with large, symptomatic effusions. Prolonged follow-up is essential in cases of pleural effusion, as in the presented case. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)
