The differential needs and expectations from general practitioners in oncology between high-income countries and low- and-middle-income countries: results from a survey of Canadian and Nepali oncologists
CONCLUSION: We found many similarities in oncologist's opinions of GPOs between the two countries, however, there were also some notable differences such as the need to provide cancer screening services in Nepal. This highlights the need to tailor GPO training programs based on local context.PMID:38439813 | PMC:PMC10911672 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1673 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Loss of < em > CDX2 < /em > and high COX2 ( < em > PTGS2 < /em > ) expression in metastatic colorectal cancer
In conclusion, loss of CDX2 was significantly associated with poorly differentiated mCRC and BRAF p.V600E allele and a prognostic marker of worse OS.PMID:38439814 | PMC:PMC10911677 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1666 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Understanding of disease status, prognosis and estimated cost of treatment among cancer patients: experience from a tertiary cancer centre in Nepal
CONCLUSION: The level of understanding is low for most patients and their immediate caregivers, particularly among those who are female, not literate and whose primary language is not Nepali. Appropriate strategy should be adopted to enhance basic understanding among patients and caregivers in our setting.PMID:38439816 | PMC:PMC10911673 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1668 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Knowledge, practice and communication barriers for oncology doctors in Chile when addressing the sexuality of their patients
CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that, despite oncology doctors seeing sexuality as an important aspect of the quality of life of their patients, they do not include the topic in clinical care. Given that one of the main barriers is obstacles relating to the institution, it is necessary to create political institutions that create the conditions for including this area as a relevant part of cancer patient care.PMID:38439800 | PMC:PMC10911666 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1665 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the cervix: case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: PSRCC is rare, with 32 cases reported according to the review. The expression with immunohistochemical and molecular techniques for the human papilloma virus can help confirm the gynaecological primary, but its diagnosis is one of exclusion, since its morphological pattern is related to other primaries, mainly digestive.PMID:38439801 | PMC:PMC10911662 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1671 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Clinical usefulness of the patient-generated subjective global assessment short form < sup > © < /sup > for nutritional screening in patients with head and neck cancer: a multicentric study
In conclusion, the PG-SGA SF© demonstrated excellent performance for nutritional screening in patients with HNC. Given that it is a simple instrument that is faster to administer than the PG-SGA®, we recommend its use in clinical practice among such patients.PMID:38439803 | PMC:PMC10911671 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1662 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

The role of modern parameters and their relationship with recurrence risk as assessed by Oncotype DX: real-world evidence
In this study, we aimed to identify classical clinical-pathological factors associated with high RS in a local population, including modern parameters such as current abemaciclib treatment recommendations, HER2-low status, different Ki-67 cutoff values, and samples obtained from secondary primary tumours. This is a retrospective single-institution study that analysed a total of 215 tumour samples. Among lymph node-negative patients (n = 179), age, Ki67 values, and progesterone receptor status predicted RS after multivariate analysis. HER2-low status was not associated with RS differences (p = 0.41). Among lymph node-positi...

Clinical characteristics, outcomes and prognostic factors in KRAS mutant lung cancers: experience from a tertiary care cancer center in India
CONCLUSION: This is the largest dataset of KRAS mutant lung cancers from India. Brain metastases were higher in patients with G12C mutations and associated with poorer PFS and OS. G12C mutation and PS ≥ 2 were also associated with inferior PFS and OS. Experience with targeted therapy for KRAS mutations remains an area of future exploration due to the unavailability of these agents in India.PMID:38439805 | PMC:PMC10911678 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1674 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)

Survival rate of cervical cancer: a five year review at a Major Teaching Hospital in Ghana, West Africa
Ecancermedicalscience. 2024 Feb 1;18:1663. doi: 10.3332/ecancer.2024.1663. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTCervical cancer (CC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among females in Ghana. Despite the magnitude of the public health challenge posed by CC in Ghana, survival data as well as reported incidence and mortality rates are primarily based on studies conducted in the capital city of the country. Even though age at diagnosis is known to affect the overall survival of CC patients, the role of this factor in the prognosis of CC patients in Ghana has not been sufficiently explored. The aim of this study was to ...

Determining the cost and cost-effectiveness of childhood cancer treatment in Haiti
Ecancermedicalscience. 2024 Feb 28;18:1675. doi: 10.3332/ecancer.2024.1675. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTHaiti is a low-income country with one of the lowest human development index rankings in the world. Its childhood cancer services are provided by a single hospital with the only dedicated paediatric oncology department in the country. Our objective was to assess the cost and cost-effectiveness of all types of childhood cancer in Haiti to help prioritise investments and to support national cancer control planning. All costing data were collected from the year 2017 or 2018 hospital records. Costs were classified into 11 cost ...

Paediatric oncology in the Eastern Mediterranean region (EMR): the current state and challenges
Ecancermedicalscience. 2024 Feb 28;18:1677. doi: 10.3332/ecancer.2024.1677. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTThe WHO Eastern Mediterranean region (EMR) is characterised by highly economically diverse countries, with healthcare systems in various phases of development. Childhood cancer care provision also ranges from that provided in centres able to deliver sophisticated therapy resulting in outcomes comparable to those seen in highly developed nations, to countries with no provision for care of children with cancer. At 10·1 per 100,000 children at risk, the age standardised incidence-rate for cancer in children below 14 years of ...
