Development and initial validation of the trait and state Mindful Eating Behaviour Scales
CONCLUSIONS: Together, all studies signal the utility of theoretically sound and empirically validated measurements for the replicable assessment of mindful eating behaviour.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: No level of evidence: basic science.PMID:37878168 | DOI:10.1007/s40519-023-01614-8 (Source: Eating and weight disorders : EWD)

The inverted U-shaped relationship between weight loss percentage and cardiovascular health scores
CONCLUSIONS: There was an inverted U-shaped relationship between weight loss percentage and CVH scores, with moderate weight loss (0-10%, optimal value of 3%) being associated with improved CVH scores, especially among individuals with OGO.LEVEL V: Opinions of respected authorities, based on descriptive studies, narrative reviews, clinical experience, or reports of expert committees.PMID:37874416 | PMC:PMC10598164 | DOI:10.1007/s40519-023-01619-3 (Source: Eating and weight disorders : EWD)

Cognitive performance in hospitalized patients with severe or extreme anorexia nervosa
CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive performance at hospital admission was normal in patients with severe or extreme AN and improved during treatment although without association to weight gain. Based on these results, which are in line with previous studies, patients with severe or extreme AN need not be excluded from cognitively demanding tasks, possibly including psychotherapy. As patients may have other symptoms that interfere with psychotherapy, future research could investigate cognitive functioning in everyday life in patients with severe AN.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: The study is registered at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT02502617).LE...

Mindful eating and eating behaviours in Greece: exploring the validity and reliability of two mindful eating scales and other eating behaviours for Greek-speaking populations
CONCLUSIONS: Findings that deviated from the expected outcomes are central to the discussion on the measurement of mindful eating, and further direction highlights the way forward for researchers and clinicians.LEVEL V: Descriptive studies.PMID:37864641 | PMC:PMC10590293 | DOI:10.1007/s40519-023-01615-7 (Source: Eating and weight disorders : EWD)

Endocrine, genetic, and microbiome nexus of obesity and potential role of postbiotics: a narrative review
Eat Weight Disord. 2023 Oct 20;28(1):84. doi: 10.1007/s40519-023-01593-w.ABSTRACTObesity is a public health crisis, presenting a huge burden on health care and the economic system in both developed and developing countries. According to the WHO's latest report on obesity, 39% of adults of age 18 and above are obese, with an increase of 18% compared to the last few decades. Metabolic energy imbalance due to contemporary lifestyle, changes in gut microbiota, hormonal imbalance, inherent genetics, and epigenetics is a major contributory factor to this crisis. Multiple studies have shown that probiotics and their metabolites (...

Relation between increasing attachment security and weight gain: a clinical study of adolescents and their parents at an outpatient ward
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with a relational and a family focus has impact on attachment insecurity in adolescent ED-patients and outcomes in terms of BMI. It is important to engage the parents, who need to help the adolescents to separate at that developmental stage. A secure therapeutic context, which enables mentalizations and allows new relational experiences, is essential. The ASQ-instrument is useful in indicating how the treatment of ED-adolescents is proceeding.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV: evidence obtained from multiple time series with the intervention.PMID:37816948 | PMC:PMC10564661 | DOI:10.1007/s40519-023-01611-x ...
