Left Vocal Process Avulsion
Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Feb 7:1455613241226860. doi: 10.1177/01455613241226860. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVocal fold process avulsion results from trauma that detaches the vocal process and thyroarytenoid muscle from the body of the arytenoid cartilage. Vocal fold laxity often causes severe dysphonia. Findings can be subtle. A high index of suspicion often permits diagnosis and effective surgical repair.PMID:38323380 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241226860 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Indications for Submandibulectomy Within a 20-Year Period
Conclusion: This retrospective study of a large cohort of patients displays a representative overview of the indications for submandibular gland excision. Sialolithiasis was the most common underlying cause of gland excision. The malignancy rate in our cohort was lower than described in the literature.PMID:38323389 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241228393 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Delayed Pulsatile Tinnitus by an Ascending Pharyngeal Artery-Internal Jugular Vein Fistula Caused by Blunt Trauma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
We present a 26-year-old male with a history of blunt trauma who presented delayed PT with direct AVF between the ascending pharyngeal artery (APA) and the internal jugular vein (IJV). The patient underwent occlusion of the fistula with transarterial embolization using coils and PT was completely resolved, confirming successful treatment. The delayed manifestation of PT in the APA-IJV fistula is probably due to the gradual formation of a pseudoaneurysm and subsequent AVF. This case highlights the importance of investigating PT in head trauma patients, as it can be a sign of AVF and possible complications. Overall, this cas...

Pregnancy-Related Recurrent Benign Goiter With Intratracheal Extension
This report describes the unique case of a 37-year-old pregnant patient with a history of total thyroidectomy who presented worsening dyspnea due to a recurrent benign goiter. The goiter grew through the tracheal wall and narrowed the tracheal lumen. After unsuccessful treatment with bronchodilators and corticosteroids, the patient underwent an emergency tracheostomy and cesarean section. Cervicothoracic computed tomography revealed a 4 cm mass in the left lobe of the thyroid gland with endotracheal extension in the subglottic region. Exploratory cervicectomy revealed a macroscopically resected mass that resembles the stru...

Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Jan 29:1455613231223378. doi: 10.1177/01455613231223378. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSolitary myofibroma or infantile myofibroma is a rare spindle cell neoplasm that generally affects infants before the age of 2 years but cases in young children and adults have been described. Although the location of infantile myofibroma in the oral and maxillofacial region has been described, the intramasseteric location of the lesion is very uncommon. A thorough assessment of histopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics is necessary to have a correct diagnosis. Treatment relies on surgical resectio...

Rare Case of Tularemia With Preauricular Lymphadenopathy and Conjunctivitis in a 27-Year-Old Male Patient in Germany
Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Jan 21:1455613231226046. doi: 10.1177/01455613231226046. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTularemia is a rare disease but shows an approximately 10-fold increase in reported cases over the last 15 years in Germany. Clinical symptoms of acute tularemia infection are various, which often delays diagnosis. This case report gives an overview of the clinical manifestations of acute tularemia and shows the importance of interdisciplinary work to shorten the time from the onset of symptoms to effective treatment in infection with Francisella tularensis. Since some cases of tularemia are life-threatening, earl...
