Statin Therapy Is Associated With Decreased 90-Day Postoperative Mortality After Colon Cancer Surgery
This study aimed to evaluate the association between statin therapy and the postoperative mortality following elective colon cancer surgery. DESIGN: This population-based cohort study is a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from the Swedish Colorectal Cancer Register. SETTINGS: Patient inclusion was achieved through a nationwide register. PATIENTS: All adult patients undergoing elective surgery for colon cancer between January 2007 and September 2016 were included in the study. Patients who had received and collected a prescription for statins pre- and postoperatively were allocated...

DESIGN: This is a retrospective case-control study of women with obstructed defecation syndrome who had radiographic rectoceles on defecography. SETTINGS: Women who presented to a Pelvic Floor Disorders Center were included. PATIENTS: Cases were defined as constipated women with radiographic rectoceles and at least stage II posterior vaginal wall prol...

Pudendal Nerve Block for Posthemorrhoidectomy Pain: A Prospective, Single-Blinded Randomized Control Trial
CONCLUSION: Pudendal nerve block does not appear to demonstrate additional benefit in post-hemorrhoidectomy pain reduction beyond local anesthetic to the wound. Attenuated Familial Adenomatous Polyposis: A Phenotypic Diagnosis but Obsolete Term?
CONCLUSION: Phenotype in familial adenomatous polyposis lies on a spectrum and is determined in part by genotype and age at adenoma count. Diagnosis of attenuated familial adenomatous polyposis should be based on phenotype; genotype is not a reliable indicator. Management should be personalized according to the phenotype of each individual. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B775. POLIPOSIS ADENOMATOSA FAMILIAR ATENUADA: ¿UN DIAGNÓSTICO FENOTÍPICO PERO TÉRMINO OBSOLETO? The “Classification Pendulum” of Stage I Colorectal Cancer: A National Level Analysis of the Survival Difference Between T1 and T2 Colorectal Cancer
BACKGROUND: The eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer classifies nonmetastatic, node-negative colorectal cancers invading the submucosa (T1) and muscularis propria (T2) as stage I tumors without additional subclassification. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to compare survival of T1N0M0 versus T2N0M0 colorectal cancers and to investigate factors associated with decreased survival. DESIGN: This was an analysis of 2 large population-based data sets. SETTINGS: The study was conducted analyzing data from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Result program and the National Cancer ...

MRI at Restaging After Neoadjuvant Therapy for Rectal Cancer Overestimates Circumferential Resection Margin Proximity as Determined by Comparison With Whole-Mount Pathology
CONCLUSIONS: The knowledge that MRI-based restaging after neoadjuvant therapy overestimates circumferential margin proximity may render some surgical radicality unnecessary and thereby help avoid the associated morbidity. With the recognition that MRI-based assessment of margin proximity may not be reliable for anterior margin and for distal tumors, radiologists may want to use greater caution in interpreting images of tumors with these characteristics and to acknowledge the uncertainty in their reports. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B814. LA IRM EN LA RE-ESTADIFICACIÓN LUEGO DE TERAPIA NEOADYUVANT...
