Social media use by young people with language disorders: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: YP with language disorders use social media for social purposes. However, co-designed research into what YP with language disorders perceive their social media needs to be is urgently needed. How to support YP with language disorders to use social media is subject to future investigation.PMID:38459901 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2325039 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Experiences of people living with Parkinson's disease and key stakeholders in dance-based programs: a systematic review and meta-ethnography
CONCLUSION: Participant experience is shaped by the instructor-participant relationship, the social environment of classes, and class difficulty level. In order to support participant experience, classes should be safe, supportive, and have an appropriate challenge-skill balance. These qualities facilitate creative immersion and the potential for personal and collective change.PMID:38459897 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2327499 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Effect of physical therapy interventions in individuals with primary thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The use of orthoses is superior to no intervention in all outcomes, exception hand function.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe use of orthosis is recommended for the treatment of patients with rhizoarthrosisUse of orthosis is better than no intervention in improving pain, grip and pinch strength. The type of orthosis (neoprene or thermoplastic, short or long thermoplastic) does not affect the clinical improvement of the individual to the outcomes of pain, hand physical function, grip and pinch strength.PMID:38450686 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2325652 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Effectiveness of gamified exercise programs on the level of physical activity in adults with chronic diseases: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Supervised gamified exercise programs seem to increase the level of physical activity compared to usual exercises in patients with chronic diseases. However, studies with better methodological qualities and subgroup analyzes are needed.PMID:38444153 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2323614 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Aphasia disrupts usual care: "I'm not mad, I'm not deaf" - the experiences of individuals with aphasia and family members in hospital
CONCLUSIONS: The stroke team has expertise in the medical management of stroke but struggle to communicate with patients with aphasia. Patients' experience of healthcare communication is often one-way and limited to following instructions, with missed opportunities to discuss core topics such as prognosis, rehabilitation, and person-specific needs. Patients and families assert that all members of the stroke healthcare team should be able to adapt communication to accommodate patients.PMID:38444182 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2324115 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Process evaluation of a complex intervention evaluating the effectiveness of home-based rehabilitation in the chronic phase of traumatic brain injury

Construct validity, responsiveness, minimal detectable change, and minimal clinically important difference of the stroke self-efficacy questionnaire in individuals receiving stroke rehabilitation
CONCLUSIONS: This study confirmed that SSEQ is a valid and reliable assessment tool for patients receiving stroke rehabilitation. We also provided practical threshold values, especially demonstrating the benefit of using individualized cMDC, to help clinicians better interpret the change in the SSEQ scores.PMID:38433459 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2324122 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Access to primary healthcare services for adults with disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean: a review and meta-synthesis of qualitative studies
CONCLUSION: People with disabilities face several barriers in accessing healthcare. Lack of healthcare provider training, inappropriate urban infrastructure, lack of accessible transport and inaccessibility in healthcare centers are barriers that need to be addressed. With these actions, people with disabilities will be closer to having their rights met.PMID:38433528 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2320268 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)
