The Impact of Nursing Education on Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Prevention Bundle to Reduce Incidence of Infection: A Quality Improvement Project
DISCUSSION: Results suggest there were no statistically significant changes in the knowledge of registered nurses or oral care bundle compliance; however, improvements in patient data following the provider education suggest that continued education to nursing staff will have a positive impact on reducing hospital stay and significant costs associated with a VAP infection.PMID:38059712 | DOI:10.1097/DCC.0000000000000615 (Source: Dimensions in Critical Care Nursing)

Impact of COVID-19 on Quality of Life After Hospital Discharge in Patients Treated With Noninvasive Ventilation/Continuous Positive Airway Pressure: An Observational, Prospective Multicenter Study
DISCUSSION: The recognition of early signs and symptoms in patients who have already experienced COVID-19 disease is essential for early detection and prevention of chronicity. Health care professionals need to pay more attention to the physical and psychological rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients after hospital discharge. To determine the long-term impacts of COVID-19, a long-term follow-up of COVID-19 patients after discharge is required.PMID:38059706 | DOI:10.1097/DCC.0000000000000614 (Source: Dimensions in Critical Care Nursing)

Associations Between Inactivity and Cognitive Function in Older Intensive Care Unit Survivors
CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of daytime activity versus nighttime activity was considerably low, indicating severe alterations in the rest/activity cycle. Higher daytime-to-nighttime activity ratios were associated with better executive function scores, suggesting that assessment of daytime activity could identify at-risk older ICU survivors during the early post-ICU transition period. Promotion of daytime activity and nighttime sleep may accelerate recovery and improve cognitive function.PMID:38059708 | DOI:10.1097/DCC.0000000000000613 (Source: Dimensions in Critical Care Nursing)

Gas Humidification During Helmet Continuous Positive Airway Pressure: A Crossover Randomized Physiologic Study in Healthy Subjects
CONCLUSIONS: Active humidification is required to achieve adequate conditioning of inspired gas during helmet continuous positive airway pressure. The choice between different humidifiers available on the market should be made according to the local needs and expertise.PMID:38059709 | DOI:10.1097/DCC.0000000000000616 (Source: Dimensions in Critical Care Nursing)

Lived Experiences of Hospitalized Patients With Coronavirus Disease at Tibebe Ghion Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Bahir Dar, North West Ethiopia, A Phenomenological Study
CONCLUSION: The study identified 2 major themes: 7 subthemes and 10 categories. Study participants faced different challenges, mainly hopelessness, anxiety, a lack of caregiver, isolation, a shortage of medications, poor communication between the patient and health care provider, and a lack of health insurance. Therefore, we recommend giving psychological support, improving communication between patients and health care professionals, and ensuring health insurance.PMID:38059710 | DOI:10.1097/DCC.0000000000000617 (Source: Dimensions in Critical Care Nursing)
