Epidemiology of Type ‐1 diabetes in Polish children: a multicentre cohort study.
ConclusionsThe incidence of T1D in children living in eastern and central Poland increased 1.5‐fold over the 5‐year observation period with the highest rise in 10‐14‐year‐olds and significantly higher rates in urban children compared to their peers living in rural areas. Impaired Secretion of Active GLP ‐1 in Patients with Hypertriglyceridaemia: A Novel Lipotoxicity Paradigm?
ConclusionImpaired GLP‐1 secretion was associated with hypertriglyceridaemia and diabetes and a more obvious association was noted in hypertriglyceridaemic patients with diabetes. (Source: Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews)

Effect of Metformin on Glycemic Control in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes: A Meta ‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionsCompared to placebo metformin was not associated with glycemic control in T1D patients. Although it exhibited other benefits, such as lower BMI and reduced insulin requirements, TC and LDL‐c, negative outcomes, such as gastrointestinal adverse effects and severe hypoglycemia, should also be considered in the use of metformin for T1D patients. Sepsis ‐Induced Activation of Endogenous GLP‐1 System is Enhanced in Type 2 Diabetes
ConclusionsTaken together, these data indicate that endogenous GLP‐1 system is activated during sepsis. T2D patients display an enhanced and prolonged activation as compared to non‐diabetic patients. Extreme early increased GLP‐1 levels during sepsis indicate poor prognosis. (Source: Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews)

When Metformin Is Not Enough: Pros and Cons of SGLT2 and DPP ‐4 Inhibitors as a Second Line Therapy
ABSTRACT The newer oral therapies for type 2 diabetes (T2DM); dipeptidyl peptidase‐4 (DPP‐4) inhibitors and sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have advantages over older agents. DPP‐4 inhibitors are weight neutral, and have few adverse effects. SGLT2 inhibitors have additional benefits; weight loss, blood pressure reduction, cardiovascular risk reduction, and renoprotective effects. SGLT2 inhibitors, have increased risk of urogenital infections and possible risk of “euglycaemic” diabetic ketoacidosis. It is important to balance the benefits over the older‐oral therapies as these agents are more e...

High ‐fat diet‐induced Tcf7l2 promoter methylation impairs β‐cell function in mouse pancreatic islets
ConclusionAn HFD was shown to induce aberrant methylation of the Tcf7l2 promoter in mouse islets, which resulted in diminished gene expression. This study provides an evidence of the association between nutrient consumption and gene expression. (Source: Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews)
