Afirma Benign Thyroid Nodules Show Similar Growth to Cytologically Benign Nodules During Follow Up.
CONCLUSIONS: Cyto-I/GEC-B nodules demonstrate similar growth to Cyto-B nodules during follow up. Though Cyto-I/GEC-B nodules were more frequently resected, only one malignancy was found. These data suggest that reassessment of Cyto-I/GEC-B nodules may be performed similarly to those with benign cytology. PMID: 26353010 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Diabetes Metab)

Bioavailable IGF-1 and its Relation to the Metabolic Syndrome in a Bi-Ethnic Population of Men and Women.
This study included 907 black and white participants stratified by sex (aged 43.0±11.8 years). Among them 63 participants had fasting glucose levels of ≥+7.0+mmol/l and/or used diabetes medication. Via standard methods we determined waist circumference, fasting glucose, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and blood pressure. We also determined high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP), reactive oxygen species (ROS), γ-GT, IGF-1 and insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3). IGF-1/IGFBP-3 was used as an estimate of bioavailable IGF-1. Total IGF-1 was similar between men and women (p=0.10), h...

Prothymosin α Overexpression Contributes to the Development of Insulin Resistance.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results support the role for ProT in the development of insulin resistance. Therefore, ProT is a potential novel therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes. PMID: 26348351 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Diabetes Metab)

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of various glucagon dosages at different blood glucose levels.
CONCLUSIONS: Subcutaneously administered glucagon produces a stable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic response at lower doses than the usual rescue dose and across a range of hypo- to hyperglycaemic blood glucose levels. This confirms the use of small glucagon doses in the artificial pancreas to correct and prevent hypoglycaemia. PMID: 26343550 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Diabetes Metab)

Benefits of combination of insulin degludec and liraglutide (IDegLira) are independent of baseline HbA1c and duration of type 2 diabetes.
CONCLUSIONS: IDegLira effectively lowered HbA1c across a range of parameters implying suitability for patients with either early or advanced T2D. PMID: 26343931 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Diabetes Metab)
